Does Google Sandbox for a keyword?

Quick question guys for anyone who knows anything about sandboxing. My site is defo indexed by google...if I do site:mysite it does appear.
however, for the main keyword I'm targetting its nowhere to be seen.....I mean not even in the first 1000 results.

Is it possible I've been blocked for this keyword only? Sorry guys if it's a dumb question.

I think, generally, if you're sandboxed then you're sandboxed. It doesn't matter which keyword, you are just sandboxed for all relating keywords and no where to be found.

Don't worry, I feel your pain.. I am also sandboxed.

Yes you can be deindexed for a keyword when I hired this SEO guy which we all know got me, but that's another story...

I paid him for 4 keywords and the easiest keyword he got to 2nd page no problem with it because I worked it myself before he started...

My main 3 keywords that was ranked for 49 to 100 he buried it like you said not even in the top 1000 and it took me almost 3 months of solid work to get them to come back...

So your answer is yes it can be...

Yeah - if you were using anchor text to target a few keywords, they can all get sandboxed. They will disappear of the SERP's or will be in some useless position like 965 or something like that.

Google will give you some relief with some long tail keywords which you didn't optimize for but it won't be much. Just keep building more links to get out.

It will take time, maybe 1 month or maybe even 4 months. I really haven't heard anyone say that it will take more than 4 months to get out of the sandbox. So, treat that as your worst case scenario and work on other projects to generate money as well.

Your site will show up when doing site:yoursite but you can still be sandboxed. I currently have one of my sites sandboxed and it still shows up on the site:mysite search. If it does not show up on the site:yoursite check then it would of been de-indexed which is BAD. But this very rarely happens. Most sites normally come back from the sandbox pretty quickly. But I have found that if you continue to add content and keep building backlinks to your site then it will come out of the sandbox quicker. No proof but it seems to of worked for me. But dont just ignore your site just because it is sandboxed!

In my experience when I have lost sites in the sandbox it will be the whole site and not just on one keyword.

Are these keywords particularly obsucre though? The reason could be is that there is absolutely no competition for these other keywords.

If you know you are indexed, and you know you're not in the first 1000 places, does it really matter where you are?

Yeah it does really, because if I don't know where I am I have no benchmark to know if my SEO efforts are improving things or not.

Certain keywords, like gambling and viagra, are sandbox happy, much more than others. This is because sites attached to those keywords are typically spammy.

Usually, I get sanboxed only for certain keywords or certain pages, not the whole domain. (great reason to have deep linking in place, when one page disappears, others can easily take its place.)

but just think of the work you could be doing actually marketing the sites instead of getting excited about moving from position 1687 to 1588.

If it's not top 100 then the problems simple - throw more links at it. When you get top 20 then look at onsite SEO, because if it's not top 20 no-one else is seeing it anyway.

if you are getting BH backlinks to your home page, chances are more that the Entire domain gets sandboxed!
