Hey all,

I noticed some traffic drops on few sites, especially on post that were heavily ai aaisted . I'm wondering whether google augst spam update may have played a role. I also came across google S-CTS that identifies and terminate network of mass generated ai spam.

And i not concluding that S-CTS alone causing these traffic drops, since there's no confirmation of that. But this timing definitely got me here.

If these Google getting better AI identifying content produced at scale mainly for search manipulations, does that mean we should change of ai seo approach?

The issue being AI as such, the problem is with scaling up content that is primarily geared toward manipulating rankings.

AI can continue to play an important role when it complements real research and creates real value.

So perhaps we should be concerned about quality and usefulness of content rather than about AI.

You know one question I keep asking is why is google shipping out AI to assist workflow, yet turnsing round to censor heavy Ai usage on sites? Several complaints have been made in this regard across platforms. For me I think the August update is is not stable yet so a lot is still shaking.

The problem i believe is that of generating content lacking value which can be scaled the more adept that Google becomes in recognizing such patterns the more viable alternative of adding real life experience insights and editorial control becomes.

Yes, I do feel that the use of AI to increas the content has become increasingly difficult. the process of researching, writing nd ideation through AI technology is fine, but adding one’s personal experience nd new facts makes the page unique.

I have sites full of GPT-J generated content still indexed and receiving traffic. The generation of articles via AI is not the issue, there are many other signals that can signify scaled content abuse (posting speed, site structure, link signals etc)

yeah i think scaling is getting harder, but i dont think ai is the main problem... its more about pumping out low value stuff just for rankings

i agree with you because google is using AI and i dont think a site using AI too is a problem but the uniqueness matters too

I’d change the approach, but not stop using AI.Use AI to speed up research, outlines and ideas not mass-produce pages.Add your own experience, insights, examples and proper human editing.Google’s focus is on scaled, low-value content created mainly to manipulate rankings. So, think AI-assisted + genuinely useful, rather than AI-generated at scale.

AI itself probably isnt the main issue. The bigger problem is publishing lots of similar pages with little extra value.

I’d change the workflow, not necessarily stop using AI. Google’s current spam guidance is pretty clear that the issue is scaled content created mainly to manipulate rankings, regardless of whether AI was used. There are also recent reports connecting the August spam update with mass-produced AI SEO content, although I wouldn’t treat S-CTS as proven to be the cause of any individual traffic drop.

If I had affected sites, I’d audit the pages that dropped rather than simply deleting anything written with AI. I’d look at originality, first-hand information, factual depth, search intent, internal linking, and whether dozens of pages follow the same obvious template. AI can still be useful for research, outlines, editing and speeding up production, but I’d want the finished page to contain something that wouldn’t exist if you simply asked an LLM to write the SERP from scratch.

The biggest change I’d make is moving from “how many pages can we publish?” to “what can we add that competitors don’t have?” That’s a much safer AI SEO model long term.
