I have a few old pages that receive some traffic but not as well as before. When do you think that it’s time to upgrade the current content rather than rewrite the whole page

the right time is when you notice a drastic drop on perfomance that is when you have to upgrade the content

For me, everythime I create a new site for my clients, anything I do, related to content - not technical SEO, I make sure all the informations there are clear, real for the business and easy to understand from the potential client point of view. If you do not read or it get's boring to read that page content, that means other people will think the same. Also, if the message is not clear and easy to understand, same issue.

If the page still ranks and gets some traffic, improve outdated information, content gaps, title/CTR, internal links, and examples. A full rewrite makes more sense when the current page no longer satisfies the search intent or competitors are answering the query in a completely different way.

Continues to generate traffic, backlinks, and ranking power, I would consider updating the content first.

A complete rewrite will be necessary when the purpose or the structure has been altered significantly.

If the page still has relevant traffic and rankings usually improve it first rather than rewrite everything consider a full rewrite when the search intent has changed the structure is outdated or the existing content no longer matches what users expect.

Well, it depends on how low the traffic has dropped and the page rankings. If the traffic it struggling to trickle in, you will need to rewrite the whole pages. But if not, you will just upgrade those pages with current and relevant contents and you should be good.

If the page still gets some traffic, rankings or backlinks, I’d usually update it rather than start from scratch. Refresh outdated info, improve weak sections, match current search intent and see how it performs before considering a full rewrite.

I would consider whether the page is still getting traffic or has some quality backlinks before I rewrite it. It might just need updating rather than a complete rewrite to get it back on track.

If the traffic has dropped to a zero and near to zero then the page has to be rewritten as the it holds no valuable backlinks and if the ranking is in 2-4 pages then there is no need for it to be rewritten.
Traffic alone shouldn’t be the deciding factor for a rewrite. I would verify impressions, rankings, backlinks, and search intent before taking any steps; sometimes a page with poor traffic numbers still has some equity that can be improved on.

Absolutely, I would first make sure that the site had some authority through the Google Search Console and that the backlinks were good before making any changes to the site.

if the page still gets some traffic and the search intent is the same, I’d update it instead of rewriting everything.

I’d only do a full rewrite when the content is outdated, the intent has changed, or the page is losing rankings for a long time.

Where the page continues to receive impressions i would updates it rather than blowing it up. It was more appropriate to do a fullyy re write when the intention changes or when the content is completely irrelevant.

If the page still gets traffic and matches the search intent, I’d update it rather than start over. Refresh outdated info, Improve weak sections, Add missing topics and check what competitor's are doing better.

As long as there is some life in terms of impressions and some gud search phrases on the page, I would rather not blows it up. Improves the poor parts first before actually rewriting it.

It was not often that i would redo a whole page because traffic was low. If the old page is ranking for any thing and have quality content I would revamp it and see what google does.
