How I lost a Group of Subreddits Banned Because a Client Did something We Agreed They Would Not... AutoMods

Just a quick tip for people.

So I sold a lot of subs to a person last week. They told me their plans, and we agreed they would not execute anything until I removed all my accounts from moderation slowly.

Welllllllllllllll..................... They did it anyway within 48 hours, after that agreement

Set off automod promotion for a high-risk niche, without even warning me at least

And exactly what I said would happen... happened. Reddit put the smack down, and cast a huge net over a group of subs, including people not even related. But I also think it was part of the recent 'wave' hitting, where they are targeting any sort of automatic activity.

And they are also targeting AD Browsers.

So anyhow, my only real loss was a 13-year-old account that was nearly on god mode on Reddit.................. I can rebuild the subreddits easily, as they can't ban all my accounts even if they wanted to, and I luckily built a trove of subs 6+ years ago. I'm still finding passwords today, honestly. Finding accounts I didn't even remember I registered.

I'm actually a real content curator, not just a subreddit marketer, so it's funny to see it all play out.

Reddit doesn't want us to earn money .................. but they ban subs with Millions of Visits per month.

Yet they claim their traffic is steadily growing, but how's that possible?

Personal expectation.

If Reddit doesn't show a downtrend in numbers soon enough, especially after the "login" pop-up and the breaking ties with Google/etc.........

There's fraud in the 'show' they are putting on about how big the platform is.

It's still absolutely useful and necessary for smart branding......................... but the 'keep it real guys' are forgetting the people who work that platform.

X didn't do what they are doing
Facebook didn't
Instagram didn't

In terms of just mislabeling accounts and banning everyone on massive scales and taking down majorly useful accounts in terms of visitor-draw

It's either going to turn out extremely bad...

or they are going to shock the industry with this model going on

I'm clueless about Reddit but have plenty of experience building and bypassing anti-automation systems, and I have to say, Reddit puzzles me. How are they able to profit, while mass-pruning and moderating content aggressively?

We all know these companies lie about their numbers, but Reddit certainly still drives traffic, mostly unauthenticated observers, probably hard to quantify in metrics too. I'm not sure how this came to be though. Is it because major data platforms like Facebook and Twitter/X now require authentication? Did Reddit's friendly guest-view interface win in the long run, maybe at least with just a few LLMs?

Look at some of Reddit's major stakeholders, Altman, Tencent, big data and AI. I think the consensus is Reddit is disproportionately influential in the AEO/GEO space. Reddit controls the narrative and messaging, LLMs ingest it; an echo chamber of cross-promotion in a way. There's certainly a circular pump happening, at least a mutual tug between big AI and Reddit.

I personally never liked Reddit or the nature of the people on Reddit. I'm afraid of what these LLMs will turn into chugging the Reddit firehose. Hopefully Reddit loses strength or makes the platform more accessible for businesses

Reddit's been around.

I was working with a Viral YouTuber back in like 2012 when a client, who's now a Tech Billy-club member ( was already loaded then too), showed me how he could flip my YouTube video traffic overnight........

Back then Reddit was way more valuable and more easy to use & 'manipulate' even if it's natural methods

Back then getting on front page of Reddit would change your life overnight. All the big webites would then publish content about you, etc

Today i'd argue Reddit is weaker. It doenst' have that same effects. It doesn't gain big media vouches, etc as easily .

Now you're getting direct to consumer.

Why?

- Website owners use reddit to find what's trendy... if it's hot there, they then put it on their site because they know it will get clicks and retain audience members

- Now, there's not as many indie webistes doing well so not as many rely on reddit

- However , I htink there was a period where many people learned this after sites started falling off and skipped the sites and came to the source (reddit)

- I think Reddit is about to phase themselves out......................They dont realize what they are doing , nor do they understand what the audienes are there for.

If a subreddit is getting 10 million organic views. I dont care. You let it live. The person running that sub knows something and maintaining a REAL AUDIENCE. That's real . You dont squander that like they are.
