It's definitely a mix of both.

Financially, the basics like housing, childcare and education cost way more than they did for previous generations. It takes a serious amount of money to raise even one kid comfortably these days.

At the same time, everyday life is just more demanding. In most households both partners have to work full time just to keep up with bills, which doesn't leave much energy or free time. A lot of couples also want to hold onto their personal freedom, travel more, focus on their careers, and skip the stress that comes with raising a big family.

Basically it all comes down to couples having less spare cash and less spare time.

Financial constraints mostly.

Life has sped up, and people have less free time. Plus, the child-free lifestyle is actively promoted. People do not want to take on responsibility or complicate their lives.
This is particularly relevant for Tier 1 countries.

i wont really say its about financial issues to be honest i just believe we think diffrently in this new generation we believe we are not really ready to manage many children, the wife work mostly now and the man will work too and at the past woman usually is the one taking care of the family but now there is shared responsibilities which is kind of stressfull for a guy and a woman now have career so i dont know if you guys understands me

Why would any sane mind want to bring more life on earth when existing ones are forced to live in misery?
There were majorities in some country with this thinking and are facing the problem of too many old people. I think it is not so easy to judge this thinking , a lot of other factors also play here.

People needs to stop using condoms, there is the problem. A 5 kids per family policy should be in place all around the world, that is how you plan your retirement and get a nice treatment as an old grumpy fckr.

As of Europe

I'd assume it's a mix of cultural, economic. and also biological factors

Cultural:

- acceptance of being single for the purpose of hedonism only
- open promotion of all sorts of anti-traditional family ideologies and movements
- females seeking career success and postponing starting a family to their late 30's or even early 40's

Biological:

- Europeans tend to have high requirements and want to provide a lot to their children
- then if they can't they have less children or postpone having children (which leads to the same output)
- aging mothers (often having their first child very late)

Economical:

- very high housing costs
- artificially high energy costs that make just about everything one needs in everyday's life more expensive
- debt that is connected with all the above

= not much disposable income for the vast majority of regular type of wage earners or small business owners.

I've read that the last country in Europe that had a population trend above a replacement level (2,1 child per mother or more) was Albania, sometime around 2002 or so.

I am sharing my experience what I am seeing around:

From my wifes' prospective:
  1. I have a beautiful 4 years old daughter. I tried to insist my wife for another baby, because one day we (me and my wife) will leave the world, then who will she have to talk or share things. See it from our own views, we are just talking to our parents and brothers/sisters. No cousin, no uncle etc. Back to topic, first she wanted to stay alone, just me and my partner, now she says who will take care of the second child, I will not ruin my carrier etc. etc.
What I found around:
  1. One of my wifes' married student said, she don't want the child, she just want to enjoy life with husband and they are around 40 years old.
  2. What my sister in law (my wifes brother wife) she wants to enjoy life like this, she don't want any child.
What I personally found, now a days people just think about themself only. They just want to do what makes them happy. Just for a short term happiness they are not thinking about the future.

But this will result in very bad situation for them in future. The system of marriage might had been introduced and maintained till now because it was effective.

It’s probably because raising kids is expensive, and apparently peaceful mornings are now a luxury.

There are many reasons. From my experience, one of the major factors is that people used to live with their families or close to them, which made raising children easier because they had support from parents and relatives. Nowadays, many couples struggle to stay close to their families due to housing costs, work opportunities, and moving to different cities or countries. Without support, raising children can feel much more challenging, which makes many couples think twice or even three times before having kids.

Financial burden or they do not want to much pressure for daily routines ?
Actually I think people can't find enough time to hassle for children although the technological advancement. Hense now a days children products are so high in price that even a middle class family have to think for this twice. This is also a reason.
