Is AI SEO Really Necessary or Good SEO Still Enough?

Well researched content and solid SEO fundamentals are still what actually drive rankings - AI tools just help you do it faster , they don't replace the need for real quality and E-E-T-A .
So its less "AI SEO vs good SEO" and more using AI a tool within good SEO , not instead of it.

I agree that quality and relevance matter more than simply building a large number of backlinks. A few strong, niche-relevant links can be much more valuable than hundreds of low-quality links.

AI SEO shouldn’t be treated as a separate replacement for traditional SEO. I use AI SEO more as an additional layer on top of solid SEO fundamentals.
I think strong SEO is still the foundation and for many sites it's enough to earn AI Overview citations naturally. But in highly competitive niches, building topical authority, clear entity signals and well-structured content can give you an extra edge, so AI SEO feels more like an enhancement than a replacement for good SEO.

Well said. The goal here is not to optimize your website content just for AI Score, its about making your brand easier to understand and being citation by AI overviews during search.
fromm my experience i think strong seo gives you the base but improving content structure and building authority can increase the chances of getting cited by ai and i wouldn’t ignore ai seo but i will start with good seo first.
After a test we have found that improving content clarity, topical coverage, and supporting authority can benefit traditional search and also create stronger signals for AI-driven search. But it doesnt mean no need to work on SEO side of your site.
I’d say good SEO is still the baseline, but I wouldn’t completely ignore AI-focused optimization. For me, the useful part is making content easier to understand: clear intent, strong topical coverage, logical structure and real supporting information. If those improvements also help with AI citations, that’s a bonus. I’d rather test that on a few pages and compare the results than change the whole SEO strategy just because “AI SEO” is trending.
Agreed. AI can help create and optimize content, but it can’t replace genuine experience, expertise, authoritative references, and first-hand insights. SEO is always the first no doubt about it. But your site also to build visibility across AI-driven search experiences to remain competitive as the industry evolves.

Glad you agree with it.

Do AI SEO so the AI cites you and know the special content framework the AI will not scrape.

My experience is that strong SEO is still the foundation. AI-specific optimization can help in some cases, but I wouldn't treat it as a completely separate strategy.

I am still using classic SEO strategies like tiered link building , expired emds , etc and just using my Automation Tools and Interlinking nothing else and I am doing well. Even the AI era, the strategies and tactics we using are the same because AI also needs citations to pull up.

SEO = ASEO / AEO / GEO whatever it's called. Now search engines integrated with overviews on the top before the blue color link lists even that it pulls from top ranking websites so even the layout changes the workaround, structure or technically the system is same... people always messing up and trying to give definition white hat, gray hat, black hat etc. Some say white hat safe, black hat is not safe right now blah blah same apply to AEO people say lot of things but still the strategy is pretty much same so yeah doing effective SEO always work my opinion.

I am heavily invested on seo tools, apis, still buying email packs, paying for shared / dedicated proxies / captchas its everything same for me except now i generate content and do the research fully automated.

Both strategies are important in the current situation. First Standard SEO and then AI overviews, this order we follow. You mentioned that you’re working on both. Now, I’m curious to know what results you’ve achieved from each strategy, especially since you’re working on both projects simultaneously

I've worked on two different scenarios with my clients recently.

Client 1: We followed a standard SEO strategy (content, backlinks, technical SEO), and the site started getting cited in AI Overviews naturally.

Client 2: The same approach wasn't enough. We had to implement a more customized strategy that focused on topical authority, entity building, and content structure before we finally secured the citation in AI Overviews.

One putting a lot of effort into AEO / AI SEO / GEO strategy(whatever we're calling it these days) like building entity signals, optimizing for AI citations, and creating FAQ focused content.

Other doing nothing than solid, consistent SEO, good content, quality backlinks, proper on-page optimization and getting cited in AI Overviews without any dedicated AI strategy like other.

So I'm wondering what you guys thinking

Is AI SEO is must-have strategy?
Or simply strong SEO naturally leads to AI citations over time?

Are you getting cited in AI Overviews without changing your SEO strategy?

I'm curious to hear real experiences from others rather than just reading another "AI SEO is the future" post.
I already has experienced both tbh. it looks like good seo puts you in the pool but clear entities and proper answers increase your chances of citations. i would not consider ai SEO as something different for now still .
