Lately, I have noticing discussion about GEO, Ai Citation, entity seo and optimized content for ai search.

It got me thinking....

If there was someone building large scale of citations network and entity mentioning just for influence ai responses.... where do we draw? Is this simply ai optimization?

I am curious about this ?

I think it depends on how the mentions are created. Real mentions on trusted websites can help build authority, but fake or mass created mentions are unlikely to work well in the long run.

There is a case study in BHW regarding this, and it's not new. Also, it worked.

That already exists.
It’s basically the AI version of link networks. Once people started manipulate AI citations at scale, AI systems will eventually learn to discount those patterns, just like Google learned to discount manipulated link networks in SEO.

No worries, seen a few similar case studies on BHW before, not really new but it’s good to see it still works when executed properly, especially when crawlability, internal linking, and topical relevance are handled right..

Its an interesting question In my view theres a clear difference between legitimately improving content so AI systems can understand it better and trying to manipulate AI responses with artificial signals Sustainable results still come from accurate authoritative content and genuine mentions while manipulative tactics carry the risk of becoming less effective as AI systems improve.

I think real mentions from trusted websites will always be better than creating hundreds of random citations AI is getting smarter every day.

Totally agree with you. Mass created mentions are not going to tip the scale to one's favor.

i believe there will be more atempts at this method as it happened with backlinks in the past. the difference is that ai appears to be more dependent on the quality nd consistence of sources than random mentions so it looks like building an actual brand is a safer route.

Yeah exactly, you hit it right on the head honestly. This is basically the AI version of building PBNs at this point.

There's a pretty clear line between genuine AI optimization and straight up data manipulation though. Structuring your facts and content so an AI can actually read and understand it properly, that's just smart marketing, nothing wrong with that. But fabricating huge networks of fake citations just to manufacture authority out of thin air, that's creating a fake consensus, plain and simple.

It's definitely black hat, no way around it. And just like search engines eventually cracked down hard on spammy backlinks, AI platforms are gonna build filters to spot and devalue these manipulated networks too. It's honestly just a matter of time before that happens, so anyone leaning on it now is kinda living on borrowed time.

There’s a clear line between optimizing content for AI understanding and manipulating signals. Structuring content with real data is smart, but building fake authority won’t last. Like backlinks in the past, it may work short term, but systems will catch up. Long term results still come from genuine content and real signals.

that is one thing that I believe is more intention-based. create content that can be well understood by AI for seo purposes. however, creating false signals at a large scale will be nothing but spamming.

Absolutely. As search engines shift towards AI-generated answers and summaries, manipulating the training data pool is the next logical step for black hat SEO. It's going to be a wild ride once people figure out how to scale this effectively.

I think there is a clear difference. Optimizing helpful content for AI is fine, but creating fake citations or large artificial networks to influence AI results feels risky and may not last.

disruption has started with Ai on BH SEO also, but its minimal, The real pro's are making a bank with BH stuff and its never public.
there’s always stuff happening behind the scenes that never gets shared publicly. But with all this GEO, AI citations, and entity SEO talk, it really feels like we’re just seeing a new version of the same game and here just applied to AI systems instead of search engines.

I think it is just a new way of marketing brands always wanted to get noticed now they are trying to get noticed by AI too.

Interesting part will be here how the ai systems separate real authority from manufactured signals. Scaling mention is easy, getting those mentions to carry consistent, meaningful context is much harder

Here the real signal be the source quality and not an volume of citations.if ai keeps find brand across weak or unniche pages, those mentions carry little weight though... Relevant source and consistent entity context are matter.

I saw Geo as extension of seo, where it focus shift towards how ai systems understand and surface a brand but building large citation or entity network purely to influence ai responses it could become another form of manipulations. I would say relevancy, authority, entity signals be the foundation

I think it depends on the mentions. Real and relevant ones are fine, but fake mentions just to influence AI answers are different.
