Broken link outreach reliably out-replies generic link requests by around ten percentage points, because you open with something useful to them instead of an ask, and it carries the lowest cost per link of the common tactics even though outreach to placement sits at roughly 2 to 5 percent. What actually changed is not the tactic, it is delivery. Cold reply rates fell about 15 percent year on year, and inbox placement to Microsoft hosted domains collapsed from around 77 percent to 51 percent, with Outlook and Hotmail worse still, so a large share of outreach that feels ignored was never delivered at all. Before writing the method off, check what proportion of your prospects sit on Outlook or Hotmail and whether your sending domain is properly authenticated, because that is a deliverability problem wearing a link building costume.

Broken link building can still work, but it's much more competitive than it used to be.
If you have genuinely relevant replacement content, it's worth trying. Otherwise, targeted guest posts and digital PR often provide a better return on time for most campaigns.

Not dead, but response rate dropped a lot.
Only worth it for high DR + exact niche match now. Guest posts are faster ROI.

Disagree respectfully! I think it's more of a deliverability issue than a reply-rate issue. Might be worth checking domain authentication before ruling the tactic out.

Fair point! Targeted outreach and original data pitches do tend to convert better for the same effort. Different game entirely from broken link building.
