Are people running their own drop-catching setups at this point, or has that whole market been consolidated by a handful of brokers? Do you vet the ownership history before buying, or just grab first and check later? And does the old authority actually carry over cleanly, or does a gap change of ownership reset trust on Google's end?

it is obvious that the market has changed significantly. Discovering a high quality dropped domain seems to be a part of a due diliggence process rather than a fast opportunity. There r many domains which look promiising due to their backlinks however, upon a closer look at them, one can see spammy links, irrelevant links or some kind of a bad repputation.

although it is posible to bring dead websites back to life, easy money has disapeared from the picture. what really matters now is proper analysis — not just the DR and backlink but history, quality of link , relevancy, and utilization.

The easy wins are mostly gone but expired domains can still work if you spend time filtering out the bad ones.

There’s not much low-hanging fruit left but there are some good drops if you’re willing to wait.
I would always be sure to look at history, anchor text, topic relevance and link strength before purchasing since being quick may cost you.
Being authoritative is a great bonus but poor history and/or poor relevance will ruin your investment.

the expired domain have their advantage, but the days of being able to register any domain with a high DR are long gone. the key aspects are that the history must be right, as well as the backlink nd keyword match.

Good expired domains are definitely more competitive now and many are caught by specialized services always check the ownership history, backlink quality and archive history before buying since relevance and a clean history matter far more than old authority alone.

The dropped domains are now much harder to find, and I always carefully examine the domain’s history, backlinks, anchor texts, indexation, and content on the domain before buying to see this domain has great SEO potential.

In my opinion, a solid backlink profile is not enough, if the domain was previously disused or redirected, much of its potential will be lost.

Have you found that sites rebuilt on a dropped domain and retained their initial niche have performed better than redirected to a new niche with appropriate redirects?
