It seems like someone is attacking my website. The site is really sluggish. I checked my cloudflare firewall settings and its essentially off. I switched to medium and speed is back to normal. May I know which setting wont affect SEO?

I usually kept it at medium.

Don't see how it would effect SEO if anything it probably makes it better.

I had a problem with an older site of a client that began to be attacked. I changed to medium, but what really helped was setting cloudflare rules, the main one to ban people from some countries, and rate limiting the admin panel (with that cloudflare verification if it was a bot or a human), among other things. Never had this problem again.

Using Cloudflare's Medium security level won't hurt your SEO. If it's blocking suspicious traffic and your site loads faster, that's actually better for both users and search engines. Just make sure real visitors and Googlebot can access your site without any issues.

one thing ppl forget when raising security lvl is to double check "verified bots" list in cloudflare, super bot fight mode sometimes flags googlebot too if its not whitelisted properly. happened to a site i managed, rankings dropped bcz crawl rate dropped after i bumped security up. always check GSC crawl stats few days after changing the setting just to be safe

Thanks for sharing this. I already whitelisted them googlebots long time ago.

I usually stick with Medium.

It offers a good balance between blocking suspicious traffic and avoiding unnecessary challenges for legitimate visitors and search engine bots.

I'm having trouble with this myself. My website is not being indexed on Google because I had some setting on and it was blocking everything. Now, I turned everything off, and I confirmed Bing is able to index my website but Google has stopped coming around. It's been 5 days since I turned everything off and nothing is indexed still.

I'm now turning things back on but I'm not sure which settings to do. I allow all AI crawlers, put a rule in for allowing Known Bots to bypass my rules which should allow GoogleBot and BingBot to come through right? I turned Bot fight mode on, am i suppose to, or does that block GoogleBot and BingBot?

Medium works well for most sites because it adds some protection without causing issues. I think as long as Google can crawl your pages normally, it shouldn't hurt your SEO.

Medium security is usually safe for SEO. Cloudflare doesn't normally block verified search engine bots like Googlebot. If your site is faster with Medium enabled, I'd keep it that way and monitor the traffic. Also check your logs to identify where the bad traffic is coming from.

Cloudflare usually do not affect SEO directly. The important thing is keeping your site fast and making sure Googlebot and real visitors can access your pages. this too

Medium is a good balance, obviously if you experience direct issues (e.g. once had someone sending bad requests that was overloading the DB) then you need to either target them or raise the level.

after 8 days setting the firewall to medium, ranking went down. Turning it off again and see if my rank can recover.
