I've had better log term results with relevant, authority links than volume. Topical relevance and natural link profile seem to survive updates much better than risky shortcuts.

Quality is subjective and changes over time to fit in the market demand. So, quality is always better than quantity regardless of time period. Currently, niche relevance, traffic, and author's credentials on the topic matter more than third party metrics.

Not quite sure what works well, but press releases are useless. I had one PR go live on dozens of sites (including AP News, NatLawReview, EIN Presswire), and only one got indexed.

HARO is just too much hassle. Requiring headshots, job titles, LinkedIn, etc...

Agreed — that shift from "chase the metric" to "chase the relevance" is probably the biggest mindset change in link building over the past couple of years. A DA 60 link from a completely unrelated niche just doesn't carry the same weight it used to, and Google's gotten a lot better at spotting that mismatch. Quality + relevance together seems to be what actually moves the needle now.

Topical relevance + quality beats high DA alone. A few strong relevance links work better than hundred of weak ones.
