Played around with it a lot, even got myself into their domainprofiteer.com system but not into orphan thingy..

The guy freaked me out 
besides...only dumbfounded people would buy "flipped-domains"...that has no real value And yes that is why its being taken advantage of to make moar money

The orphan methods involves finding expiring .com domain names that have a website built on the .net name. You than register the .com and try to sell it to the owner of the .net website.
The method can work, because the owners of the website probably would prefer the .com domain name, but it was taken when they built there site.
The only problems is you need to join domainersedge at $99/mon to get the list of expiring .com names with the .net built into a site.
You can try out it out for a month and get a refund to see if it's something you want to do.

I'm thinking of joining domainer*edge but $99/month is a little steep for me. Is anyone a member there? I checked out their forum but there is not much posting at all (maybe I have to be a member to see all the posts). Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

In my experience majority of such membership programs are overpriced, all they do is feed you spoon by spoon what you could learn in a week or two of study and reading in months or even years.

I agree it is steep. The information provided is useful if you plan on buying alot of dropping domain names. I think you would need to spend at least $1000 per month buying expiring domains for it to be worthwhile. I have been a member off and on since they opened the membership.
I recently rejoined just to see what the orphan method is. I don't think I am going to stay a member because I don't have the time to check for the top dropping domains everyday.
If your interested go ahead and sign up and if your not happy ask for a refund. I have done that in the past and received the refund with out an problems.

OK here;s whatr happened to me.
I joined Domainers Edge and cancelled after 2 months.Within 2 days after I cancelled I got an email with the usual, "we hate to lose a valuable customer, yada, yada, yada..." and the offered to give me the orphan method for free and also to reduce my member ship to 47$ per month if I joined again.
So I would try the 1 month trial, and cancel. They just might do the same for you as they did for me.

Reading this thread it occured to me it's probably these orphaned method
people who keep emailing me to say "hey you bought the info, would you like to com for $200" always gives me a good laugh, particularly when they haven't even registered the com.
Recently I had an email from someone who had the .cn and said he "only wanted $1000 for it".

Until a few months ago I ran my own code to compare lists of expired/expiring .com domains (using data from Exody.c0m) and Snap auction names that would check for matching registered .net domains and give me a list each day of potential domains to buy that fit the 'orphan' criteria.
I was able to flip one .com domain to the .net owner for $600, and made lesser amounts on a handful of others, but I ended out buying too many domains that the .net owners didn't want.
I used TastingGenie.c0m to taste some of the domains I found that had expired and that were available, but the better names seemed to be the ones available from Snap and most of them went for $9 to around $89 (typically with no other bidding.)
I did notice than Snap dropped the ones that didn't sell and that it was occasionally possible to grab one or two after they dropped for the registration cost (I ran a script and used Enom APIs to grab dropping one.) However, I found that most of the domains Snap dropped were grabbed by a registrar which appeared to be owned by a guy who was selling domain flipping info and services. It seems that he would register and taste as many as he could grab and first offer to sell the better names to the owners of the matching .net and .org - then if they didn't sell them he would offer to 'wholesale' those domains to the people paying to know how to flip domains, thus many of the better domains were picked over and the best potential buyers had already been contacted.
I think this method could be very profitable if someone were to become a registrar so they can do what he is doing and actually get more of the dropping names or the ones Snap didn't sell and then drop the names that don't sell or that aren't otherwise decent names before the end of the refund period. I looked into becoming a registrar myself, but I couldn't afford the cost of getting started.
You might be able to make a few bucks occasionally as an individual using these methods, but you may end out owning a lot of domains that nobody wants and find that it isn't worth the effort.
