As linux is gaining more and more popularity, Do you see yourself giving linux a chance? It is getting better and better and we are seeing average users switch to linux after getting tired from Microslop and their bloated Windows. Me personally, I have gone with the Pop OS.

I've given Linux a chance around 2013... then removed it after 2 weeks of usage because I could't get the hand of it...

Then I gave it a chance again in 2018... and then removed it again, but after 1 month this time, also because I still couldn't get the hang of it...

And then I gave it a final chance in 2022 when I couldn't take Microslop's forced AI, bloatware, telemetry and ads cramming down my throat anymore, and - right before switching to Linux for good in 2022 - I have told to myself "ok, it's either Linux forever this time, or I give up on using computers".

So, in a sense, I've programmed myself to start enjoying Linux or stop using PCs and - since I've grown up with PCs and they've become an integral part of my life - giving up on them was a no-no for me, so I've learned to become friends with Linux instead :D

And since then I've been using Linux continuously and - despite of the fact that I've not touched any MS product in 3-4 years now and only been using Linux all this time - I am still NOT friends with Linux :D

For non-tech savvy people like myself Linux is brutally hard, I can tell you this much. If my computer didn't boot for some reason... or gave me a critical error or something, and I also had no access to internet at the same time I'd be finished! I wouldn't be able to troubleshoot the simplest of things in Linux. In this regard Windows was better (although, it's fair to say that I've used Windows for 35 years, so that helped too for sure)...

But yeah, despite of how brutally hard it is to troubleshoot Linux if you're like me, I also don't feel compelled in any way to go back to Microslop. With Linux (at least for now, god-knows what will happen in the future) my computer feels like it's truly mine... and it's blazing fast too, which is something that I've not experienced in the last years of Doze :)

I have been using Linux on and off for a few years now, but since January I am using only Linux for my daily work. Specifically I am using Kubuntu (which is just an Ubuntu version) on my 6-year old Thinkpad. There has been a few bugs here and there, specifically with the desktop, but other than that, it is much faster and better than Windows. I have been using Windows 10 for a long time and as you know now they are forcing us to use Windows 11 that I do not like for many reasons. EU is embracing Linux more and more as well. Highly recommend it.

I've thought about trying Linux a few times mainly because of the flexibility and the amount of control it gives users The learning curve is probably what stops many people from switching completely, especially if they're already comfortable with their current setup Still it seems like a good option for anyone who enjoys learning new things and customizing their system

I've used Ubuntu in the past but unfortunately I'm still a Microsoft slut.

:(
well, you know what they say: old habits die hard :D

Anyway, I feel you! It took me 9 years and an "enough is enough!" to get in the right mindset of finally ditching Microslop and take a leap forward after 35 years of MS indoctrination. So yeah, I can totally relate to the being a MS slut part :)

Unfortunately, until game publishers decide to support linux, as well some content creation software I use, I'm stuck with windows. Hubby switched to Linux on his work machine though a few weeks ago and is happy as a clam. But he's a system admin so it checks out.

It is good seeing people tired of microslop's shenanigans and ditching it for something else.
Give Linux a chance in what? All my servers are Linux-based.
everyday use

Yeah, the only problem Linux faces right now is support. Not many devs support it which doesn't make it a suitable option as of the moment for a professional. For gaming there is SteamOS.

I was scared to shift, but decided to shift in 2023, I am so happy, no more annoying updates, and crashes. Even 32 gb ram is not enough for that shit. But I am on Linux mint, its simple and get the work done for me.

i also think the number of users switching to Linux becau they're dissatisfied with Windows is increasing, but the vast majority of mainstream users remain on Windows simply because it's pre-installed on new computers and has a very extensive system software ecosystem.:( Linux is growing, but it's not yet the default choice for the majority of personal computer users. Personally, I still prefer Windows :D

I didn't want to do this, but they've forced me into it with all of the bloatware, telemetry and AI.

But - believe it or not - what's bothered me the most is that the Doze would enable updates on its own AFTER me going through hell to disable them, and - most enraging thing of all (and the tipping point for me) - they'd still force-update and force-restart my computer right when I was in the middle of something. That couldn't have go on for me, so that's when I've said "ok, Linux time or no PC anymore for me, fuck this!"

So, it's MS's fault :D

I think Linux is getting better and more user friendly so more people are trying it now It can be a good option for users who want speed and control but it depends on personal needs and software compatibility

I would recommend you try it out. I have been using PopOS for the last week. There were some problems in the start but nothing the linux community can't fix.

Right, Windows is so bloated, even 16gbs of ram isn't enough for the average users nowadays

It is basically like the meme "You have forced my hand"

That is one very good thing. It is just getting better and better now and more distros for your own needs are coming

I like Linux but I can't see it ever being anything more than niche.
