I have heard a lot about the local SEO business model called rank&rent but I still can't fully understand this concept of GMB. I understand how to rank in google search results, but what about Google Maps, how do I get my listing to show up alongside real businesses in a specific area?

If I need to add a business location with real photos of the place, how is that supposed to work when I don't yet know who will rent the service from me? Should I set up a placeholder listing first, and then once someone rents the spot, update everything such as business hours, photos, and all the other details?

The tricky part is that Google Business Profiles are meant for real, operating business. Creating a placeholder listing with the intention of changing everything later can lead to suspensions if it doesn't represent a genuine business at the time of verification.

Most successful rank-and-rent operators either work with a real business from the start or build and rank a local website first, then partner with a business later. Google Maps rankings depwnd heavily on legitimacy, proximity, reviews, and business signals, not just traditional SEO.

I'd be careful with using placeholder listings. In most cases, it's better to have a legitimate business setup from the start and focus on building local visibility around a real service rather than trying to create something that can be swapped out later. and for ranking on GMB its about how active you are on the profile like review, mean good review like 5 star and you can run ads for it if possible

Google business profile are meant for actual business, not future tenant. Tying to rank fake listing can lead to suspensions.
