Hello everyone,

For the last few months my Google Ads were doing fine and ranking pretty well, but recently one competitor suddenly started showing above me on almost every important keyword. Since then, my CPC has also gone up and clicks feel lower than before.
I have not changed much in my campaigns, so I’m confused what suddenly changed. Does this mean they increased bids or improved quality score?
Should I just raise my bids too, or is there a better way to compete without spending way more?

this happens mostly when someone enters with high budget or aggressive automated bidding like target impression share to dominate top page. before raising your bids and wasting money check your quality score first, because if their relevance or landing page exp is better they pay less than you for higher spot. try to optimize your ad copies to improve CTR and add all relevant assets or extensions, it helps to fight back without burning your pocket instantly. if they are using script or automated bid you cant win just by raising bids manually so focus on ad relevance first.

I think it could be competitor increased bids, improved ad rank, or even changed match types google auction shifts like this happen often without you changing anything.

Sounds like your competitor prob upped their bids or ad quality, instead of just raising bids try improving ad copy & CTR, and check your QS for low areas, sometimes small tweaks beat big bid jumps.

If nothing changed on your side, I would first check what the competitor changed. They may have increased their budget, improved their ads, or made changes to their landing pages. I would look there before spending more money.

Yep, that usually happens when a competitor steps up. You can compete smarter by tweaking ad copy and targeting, not just money.

Boost your Quality Score by improving your ad relevance, landing page speed, and expected click-through rate. A higher score lowers your cost-per-click and wins back top positions without increasing your budget.

Competitors can do whatever they want if they have enough budget. Now that's your turn.. if you have enough budget you know what to do.

check auction insights first to see their impression share, usually its better to optimize ur quality score and ad relevance instead of just blindly raising bids and burning budget.

It's highly likely that your competitor adjusted their bids. However, you can still check if your competitor's ads have changed and try optimizing your own ad content. If the optimization still doesn't work, you can only try increasing your budget. :smirk:
