Are Reddit backlinks actually worth it for SEO or just hype?

Hello,
I have been trying to understand if reddit backlinks really help with SEO. Some people say they bring traffic and authority, others say they are mostly nofollow and don't matter much .
I am not doing spam or anything, just trying to understand if it is worth spending time engaging on reddit for backlinks or if I should focus elsewhere.
Would love some honest experience from people who have tried it.

Honestly, Reddit backlinks alone won't move SEO much in a direct way. Most are nofollow, so Google is not really counting them like traditional links. Where they can help is if your post actually gets traction, real comments, upvotes, and clicks. That is when you start seeing referral traffic and sometimes even secondary links if people pick it up elsewhere. If it feels forced or link heavy, it usually dies quickly here . Focus more on joing conversations first, links second.

Reddit backlinks are not usually powerful because of direct link authority since most of them are nofollow. However, reddit can still help SEO indrectly through traffic, faster indexing, brand mentions, user engagement, and overall visibility. If the posts and discussions are natural and placed in relevant communities, they can drive targeted traffic and even lead to people mentioning or linking to your site elsewhere. So Reddit is generally more useful for brand trust and organic exposure rather than just traditional backlinks power alone.

Honestly, reddit backlinks are not game changers for SEO. they are mostly no follow, so they do not pass authority. if your content is useful, you can get clicks and people talking about it, which is indirectly helpful.

Reddit backlinks alone usually aren’t the reason pages rank, so I wouldn’t treat them as a direct link building strategy. Most are nofollow, but that doesn’t automatically make them useless.

Where Reddit can help is visibility and referral traffic. If you’re active in relevant communities and genuinely answer questions, people can discover your content, share it elsewhere, and sometimes that leads to natural links from blogs or sites that do pass stronger SEO value.

Practical tip: use Reddit to build relevance and audience, not just links. Common mistake is joining communities only to drop URLs those posts rarely last and usually bring little long-term value.

I’d track Reddit impact through GSC query impressions, referral sessions, assisted conversions, branded search changes, and whether Reddit threads start ranking around your target terms

Nothing worked for me. I have 2 websits on which I got links from reddit but as those are no-follow so it is not helped anything in rankings.

reddit backlinks can help with visibility and traffic if the post gets real engagement.I don’t think they’re powerful for direct SEO alone but they can still bring useful signals and exposure. the key is sharing genuinely helpful content instead of spamming links...

Reddit backlinks are more valuable for targeted traffic, indexing, and brand signals than raw SEO power. Even though most are nofollow, genuine engagement on relevant subreddits can still help indirectly though traffic, mentions and natural link opportunities. Spammy Reddit links usually bring little value

Reddit backlinks are less about “link juice” and more about trust, indexing, and real traffic. Most are nofollow, so they’re not some magic ranking boost, but good Reddit mentions can still help indirectly if they bring engagement, clicks, and brand signals.
So yeah, I’d treat Reddit more as a traffic/community play than a pure backlink strategy.
