The recent cPanel security incident clearly demonstrated this:
The issue is no longer which panel offers more features, but
"how well can a panel maintain system control when it fails?"
We saw a vulnerability like CVE-2026-41940:
a single weak point → auth bypass → root access.
After this point:
UI, feature list, integrations are meaningless.
The real-world scenario is:
- a client commits an abuse
- a restore fails
- an update breaks the system
- or an exploit enters
This is where the panel's quality becomes apparent.
Today, most panels still have weaknesses in:
- true isolation (tenant → tenant jump is still possible)
- correct resource visibility (it's not clear who is consuming CPU/IO)
- reliable migration/restore (most are at the "hopefully it will work" level)
And the most critical issue:
backup is a must, otherwise it's over.
Because after an attack, what you discuss isn't the panel, but
"how much data I lost".
Speaking specifically about cPanel:
It's powerful in terms of features, yes.
But keeping it secure and stable is now a serious operational burden.
So, the panel:
while it should reduce the workload,
in most scenarios it requires extra attention and intervention.
I think the industry is at this breaking point:
“Feature richness” → is losing its importance
“Isolation + observability + recoverability” → is becoming the real value
And there's another interesting breaking point here:
If you ask even the worst AI today,
“What is the most modern server panel released in 2026?”,
most of the time classic solutions like cPanel and Plesk
don't even make it to the top of the list.
But despite this, people still
continue to pay thousands of dollars in license fees.
Why?
Because the industry operates not on technical correctness, but on habits and risk perception:
- the confidence that everyone uses it
- workflows that teams are accustomed to
- familiarity on the customer side (ease of onboarding)
- fear of migration (risk of disrupting the employee)
In other words, people choose not the best solution, but the one that will produce the fewest surprises.
But recent events clearly show this:
Habits don't save bad architecture or weak isolation.
If a system:
- cannot isolate the error
- cannot limit the attack
- and cannot provide a clean rollback
Being "the standard in the market" doesn't make it reliable.
In short, the industry is moving slowly,
but the direction has changed.
And the determining factor in this change is not:
which panel is more modern?
which panel doesn't cause loss of control even in the worst-case scenario?
