What is the strategy for popularizing a subreddit?

I am creating a crypto directory site, which will actually be a kind of comparison of similar services and their reviews. The plan is to open a sub on Reddit, but I need a strategy to popularize it.
I have a 13yr old Reddit account (3700+ karma), I am a moderator in some discussions, so I think I can start with that account without fearing a ban.
I'm not interested in black methods and spamming, because in the long term, it will probably only cause problems for me.
Any suggestion is welcome

Reddit is all about the hivemind. Check similar popular crypto subs and basically copy them.

It seems to be the usual story: original, legal content, steady subscriber growth, no complaints, and so on. But that’s all just “theory”; in practice, things usually aren’t quite so rosy.

I focus on posting high- value content consistently: comparisons , scam warnings,honest review,industry updates and discussions threads. Try to become resource hub instead of just pushing your directory.
A good long term strategy is to make the subreddit genuinely useful first,not promoted. since you have already have an aged accounts and moderation experience,you are in strong position.

A subreddit without any real members is a dead space. Members need a reason to be in the sub. Post content in the sub that users like and can comment on.

Honestly, your aged Reddit account is probably your biggest starter asset because Reddit trusts history way more than flashy growth tactics. I’d focus on becoming genuinely useful first by posting comparisons, scam warnings, market observations, and transparent reviews in existing crypto communities before subtly funneling people into your own subreddit over time. Most successful Reddit communities kinda grow like open-source projects: slow at first, built on reputation, and powered by people feeling the content is actually worth bookmarking instead of just being another SEO farm.

Build a content calendar with comparisons, reviews, news, and AMAs to keep the subreddit active and worth revisiting.

There's not "a strategy". Every case needs to be custom tailored. You need to understand what is it that is lacking in your particular niche and offer it to people. For example:

Let's say you're from Spain and people complain about the mods of Spain banning those they don't agree with. You could take advantage of that and create the free alternative.

This is just an example. It's all based on observation and knowing your public. If you simply wanna create a subreddit just like many others that exist and you're offering nothing new or different, it's gonna be hard to grow.
