I met a nice guy in my niche through a buddy, I used to work for buddy but he got erased from the biz by a monopoly so I went independent while he got work from the nice guy. The "nice guy" to me was competitor and refused to speak to me or pass over work. Lately he has been struggling a bit so desperate enough to speak to me. I was nice as well and told him the "basics of SEO", but no further. Even the basics would greatly improve his rankings.
The nice guy laid it on thick and i did "basic work" on one of hist sites, he said I need to see everything your doing and tell me everything so i can do it to all my sites. I told him, i cant show you how to link build other than reaching out. I am not going to show you everything i do.
The nice guy went ape #$## pulled the access i had, went on some crazy rant, regathered himself but always expose his true intent LOL. I knew from the start what he was up to but wanted to let him dig his own hole and make some money. I had a business partner try this years ago, but first SEO client to try and steal my actual strategy or guilt me into telling him.
Everything I told him he was recording and had a well documented notepad. Any fun story i told him about dealing with competitors he went back to buddy and retold the story like he was the one that did it or what he will do. So crazy, he is going to get scammed again very soon.
Moral of story respect ppl that tell you to F off, and aint no such thing as a nice guy, the always do the most damage if they have the opportunity.
