(Not a SEO guy) Okay, this might be a stupid question, but it often comes to mind whenever I think about building a SaaS product. Is seo required to get customers for a SaaS? for example, let’s say I build a product and put it live with simple pages like:

home
pricing
Faq
Other basic pages (according to product)

So my question is: do I need to do full seo research and rank my product to get customers, or if my SaaS product is actually good and solves a real problem, is that enough?

If it's not paid traffic, it's SEO. Even if someone recommends your product as the best, when they type it into Google, your website needs to appear; if another website appears, they'll access that one.

Basic SEO for a SaaS company is appearing in the first position when searching for your product name or company name. If that's not happening, you're not even doing the basics.

Good product helps, but SEO brings consistent traffic. You don't need full SEO early, but it matters long term.

Basic optimization is necessary to rank for brand-related searches (if someone is looking for your product). Otherwise, SEO makes sense for these types of products if you run a blog with articles that are in demand among your target audience.

it really depends on how you plan to get your first users. A good SaaS that solves a real problem can still get customers without heavy SEO, especially if you’re active in the right communities, do direct outreach, or use paid ads/testing channels.

SEO is just giving information about your website to search engines on a platter so that they can find and index content without any issues.

You need branding to show up for brand terms and SEO to rank for product or problem related keywords. It depends on how you want to promote your products to identify what you should prioritise.

You can get that through paid ads, outbound sales, partnerships, or platforms—but SEO is one of the few channels that compounds over time instead of draining budget every month.

SEO isn’t required to get customers. A good product can grow via direct outreach, communities, and word of mouth.

SEO helps scale later, but early on, validation and distribution matter more than rankings.

If you offer a great product but nobody knows about it and they don't know how to find it, will it be effective? Therefore, you need to use SEO to provide people with a link to find your product.

If people search your product, then the answer is obvious - you do need SEO. For example, Beautiful.ai is a great presentation generator but they need to do SEO because people specifically go to Google and search "ai presentation generator". If they don't do SEO, other tools (there are plenty of similar tools that are as good) will take over all this organic traffic.

If your product is a new technology, first of its sort, then you'd be better off putting your efforts into other traffic sources - social, paid, directories. For example, Zapier.com is a great automation tool. But since their target audience doesn't specifically go to Google and search "ai automation tool", they don't bother themselves beyond basic SEO optimization.

Research your niche. If there is search volume = invest in SEO. No search volume = don't waste your resources on getting non-existent traffic.

No, SEO is not required for bring users but your communities and group or your contents can rank your SaaS website.

From what I’ve seen SaaS without SEO struggles with CAC in the long run. Content + SEO helps reduce dependency on ads and builds trust over time

Is seo required to get customers for a SaaS?

No.

SEO isn't required for any business to make a profitable funnel, but it can darn sure pay off if you
invest in the often slow upwards movement of gaining traffic organically.

All you need to start is ad investment, and once you find what converts start ranking for those terms.

Not a stupid question at all this is something a lot of people wonder about . SEO is not strictly required to get customers , especially early on . A good product that solves a real problem can get traction through word of mouth , communities , or direct outreach. SEO helps over time , but it is not the only way to grow.

I think SEO helps alot, but It's not strictly required at the start. A good SaaS can still get users through direct outreach, communities, or ads, and then SEO builds over time in the background.

SEO isn't required to get customers for a SaaS-many products grow through word of mouth, communities or direct outreach first. If your product truly solves a real problem, you can get early users without ranking on Google. But SEO becomes valuable over time as a steady, scalable channel for consistent signups. Think of it as a long-term growth engine, not a must-have from day one.
