Hello guys, I am considering starting with free platforms like Blogger or Medium before investing in a domain. Do these platforms still offer real growth opportunities, or is it better to go self hosted from the start? I had love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

free platforms like Medium or Blogger can work for testing ideas, but real long term growth is much better on a self hosted site with your own domain.

Blogger is hard to monetize its used buy old time bloggers who do it as hobby in their spare time. Medium is hard to get indexed in the beginning and rankings are going down. Too many bans. Worldpress.org is obvious choice.

I think free platforms are good to start and learn, but for long term growth and control, self hosted is better.

Starting on platforms like Medium or Blogger can still work , especially if you are just getting into writing and SEO . They already have built in audiences , so it is easier to get some early traction . But long term , having your own site gives you more control and branding . A mix of both can actually be a smart way to start.

Not worth it (Imo), You can get some traction on platforms like Medium, but you don’t really own it.

If you’re serious, better go self-hosted from the start.

Platforms like Blogger and Medium are good for beginners to learn and test content, but they have limits in control and SEO. If you’re serious about long-term growth, starting with your own website is the better choice.

Good for testing ideas not long term.
You dont control platform so accounts can get limited anytime. Better move to own domain once you see traction.

i think so no buy a new domain and start working its better.

Medium or Blogger platforms still work in 2026, but they’re not the best choice for everyone anymore

go self hosted from start if you want real control, free ones are only for testing.

In my opinion, you can still start with free platforms like Blogger or Medium to learn how to write, test content and understand your readers, which is great for the beginning. But in the long run, if you want to do SEO, build a brand and make money sustainably, you should have your own website.

Free platforms are totally fine for just dipping your toes in and seeing if blogging is your jam, but honestly, for real growth, long-term seo, and owning your brand, self-hosting from day one is definitely the move

free platforms are good for testing, but self hosted sites give much better control and long term growth.

It's fine to start and practice with free platforms, but they don't offer long-term growth, branding, or control. A self-hosted site is the smarter move if you are serious about building traffic and making money.

I think free blogging platforms still work well, but they are no longer as popular as they used to be.

Free platforms are good to start with, but for long-term growth, a self-hosted blog is better. It gives more control and room to scale. Start free, but consider upgrading soon.

They are still worth using for testing ideas and getting quick visibility. But long-term growth is limited because you don’t fully control SEO or branding. Most people use them as a starting point, not a final strategy.
