Do you ever look at a competitor’s backlinks and think “how did this even work?”

Something funny I’ve noticed while doing competitor analysis lately.

Sometimes you check a competitor’s backlink profile expecting to see super clean, high-authority links… and instead you find some really random stuff ranking above you.

Old forum links, weird blog comments, or placements on sites that look like they were built in 2008.

Meanwhile you’re trying to build “perfect” links and Google is like… nah, let’s rank the chaotic one.

Makes me wonder sometimes if SEO is part strategy and part Google just being in a mysterious mood.

Anyone else ever look at a competitor’s backlinks and just sit there thinking
“how is this site actually ranking?” o_O

Maybe it's just a Google dance
Look closer and keep watching

Happen a lot usually age + topical relevance carrying them. Looks messy, but there's structure behind's it.
