Given that Jr. VIP, or another paid upgrade, is required to be a BHW seller, I'd assume that having VIP makes the difference between selling something and selling nothing.

In my own experience (former Jr. VIP, will renew soon), the biggest value in the forum comes from the information, not direct sales to other members.

If you're only concerned about visibility, you can see the number of times a thread has been viewed. Thousands of views for just $177 ($147 yearly VIP and $ 30 for a sales thread) a year, that's unbeatable.

Sales will entirely depend on what you're selling and how you pitch it.

If you browse the marketplace, you'll see some sellers have been around for years, even a decade. That should tell you everything. If you're a good seller, you'll get buyers.
