Use the subreddit RSS feed (reddit.com/r/NAME/new.rss) to monitor new posts and comment in the first 5-10 minutes — early comments on posts that later go hot get 90% of the karma. For mid-size subreddits (50k-200k) posts stay in "new" longer so you have a bigger window to be early. All the warmup advice above is right but this one change will 3-4x your karma speed.
