Has anyone figured out how ads inside ChatGPT actually work?

I Recenttly started noticing some sponsored placements while using ChatGPT. There"s no public dashboard like Google ads or Facebook Ads. Is this invite only or hanfled directly by the platfrom?

Curious if anyone here has experience with it.
Thanks.

Yes, ChatGPT doesn’t have a public ad dashboard like Google Ads or Facebook Ads yet. Everything works either by invitation or through direct coordination with the platform. In other words, ad campaigns are set up internally by the OpenAI team, and access for external advertisers is limited. User experience is still scarce since it’s a new system and not widely available.

Yes, there is a rollout of sponsored placements in ChatGPT, which is currently in a controlled phase. As of now, there is no publicly accessible platform to create these ad campaigns. It is in a limited beta test by OpenAI, with a very few selected group of bigger brands and agency partners (such as Omnicom,, WPP, Target and Adobe). There seems to be a plan for a broader rollout, because I see an advertiser waitlist type of option at openai.com/advertisers , where it is mentioned "If you’re interested in advertising with OpenAI as we expand, sign up to stay informed".

Yeah, I noticed that too. From what I see, ads in ChatGPT are just shown by the platform itself, not like Google or Facebook where you can run your own campaigns. I think they’re mostly automatic and based on the free plan usage, not some invite-only system. Don’t think users can control them yet.

yeah its still early bro, no public ads dashboard like google or fb, looks like invite only or handled directly by platform, mostly big brands testing it
normal users cant run ads yet, maybe later they open it

Right now there’s no self-serve dashboard like Google Ads. Ads are being tested with selected brands and appear as sponsored blocks under answers.

It's definitely in a very controlled beta phase right now. OpenAI seems to be hand-picking a few major agency partners for these initial tests rather than opening it up to everyone. We probably won't see a self-service dashboard like Meta or Google for a while until they figure out the best way to integrate ads without ruining the user experience.

ChatGPT ads are currently in a limited testing phase and are not available as a public self-serve platform. They are managed directly by the platform and shown only to selected users, not open for general advertisers yet.

As far as I know, there’s no open ad dashboard like Google or Meta if anything is shown as sponsored, it’s handled directly by the platform side or selected partners, not something users can control or apply for.

As far as anyone can tell, there’s no public “ad manager” like Google or Meta.

Sponsored placements (when they show up) are handled directly by the platform itself or limited partners—more of a controlled rollout than an open auction system.

So no invite dashboard for users yet, and nothing you can bid on or manage yourself.

Well, they've just announced a new bot, OAI-AdsBot, which is meant to 'validate the safety of web pages submitted as ads on ChatGPT'. So something is a-brewing!

Weirdly, the UA string for the bot is
Code:
Mozilla/5.0 AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko); compatible; OAI-AdsBot/1.0; +https://openai.com/adsbot
and the url it includes is a 404 o_O

it can put up by the semrush not through the actual chatgpt

I think It’s still in testing, so there’s no public dashboard yet and access is handled directly by the platform or partners.

these sponsored placements are managed directly by the platform and not public like Google or Facebook Ads. It seems mostly controlled internally, not an open invite system.

It’s still private access only, not something users can join or manage yet. Probably just internal or selected advertisers for now.

There is no public dashboard yet; it is currently a managed beta for select enterprise partners. You can submit your interest via OpenAI’s advertiser signup page, but broad self-serve access is not expected until later in 2026 or 2027.
