Manual affiliate tracking breaks with SaaS - what are you using?

Tried running a SaaS affiliate program manually and it was fine at the start. But once subscriptions got involved (upgrades, downgrades, refunds, cancellations), the whole thing started breaking. Commissions don’t line up cleanly anymore, and every edge case turns into manual work.

Affiliates asking what they actually earned vs what got refunded or changed mid-cycle makes it much worse. Right now it feels like I’m stitching together numbers from different places every time.

How are you guys handling this once it gets past the simple stage?

Manual tracking works only in the early stage. Once recurring billing starts, you need affiliate software tied to Stripe or it turns into a reconciliation mess fast

For SaaS affiliate tracking in 2026, stop manual work and use Rewardful or FirstPromoter to automatically sync with Stripe/Paddle for real-time handling of upgrades, downgrades, and refunds.

One thing that helps is moving everything into a proper affiliate tracking system that automatically adjusts commissions when a subscription changes.

yeah makes sense, I started looking into those too

what I actually like in setups like that is:
– proper handling of upgrades/downgrades instead of breaking commissions
– refunds not nuking everything retroactively
– real event-based tracking instead of recalculating from final state
– and just having everything tied directly to Stripe so you’re not stitching exports

that’s the part I’m missing right now, everything feels patched together
have you been running it for a while? does it actually handle edge cases cleanly or still needs manual fixes

especially when upgrades/refunds happen mid-cycle, feels like without proper event tracking it just turns into constant reconciliation
