Solo Travelling the World

Hey BHW,

Have you ever solo travelled? Looking to plan one for this year intending to depart in a few months - I'm at baseline here though.

I don't really know where I want to go or do, but I have travelled a lot with family and domestically with some friends but never truly solo.

As Australia decided to break off and be in the middle of no where by itself, the flight out and in are the most expensive part of the trip. It's cheaper to go to Indonesia then Brisbane on some days/airlines,

Anyways let's say you have a 10k usd budget and are back in your 20s on a world map. What you doing?

Oh actually I have been to Thailand semi solo (met a online friend there), Phuket and within was... interesting

You are very lucky, and I wish you happiness in your life journey, because solo traveling means exactly that: Life journey. Before put your finger on the World's map, ask yourself what you want to achieve through this journey: Are you curious about a specific culture? Do you want to try something new, way different than a club experience (this can be achieved almost everywhere) - for example, shamanic rituals, ayahuasca ceremonies or andean energy work - ? Do you want to visit a special landscape - the scenic mountains of Kazakhstan or Salar de Uyuni? Do you like hiking and want to see a live bear (very dangerous, btw) - If so, Romania may be your place for that.

Anyway, sky is the limit. Ask yourself what you want to achieve, and feel free to plan your next solo trip.

Thank you mate appreciate the words. I will stay away from rituals and all the funky ceremonies for my first trip.

I really just want to get out there and be self sufficient (away from family) for a period of time while enjoying myself and relaxing after some stressful crypto nights over the years.

I need to visit Armenia and see my roots many generations ago, maybe as a stopover from Romania to Kazakhstan :)

Yes! I was looking at different travel group agencies a lot of them visit Vietnam and surrounds, they advise not to enter Myanmar though.

Inside the country are underground and illegal operations that keep flooding BHW with AI slop. Just kidding, I do wonder what it's like in that country though.
 
Solo is more fun. Been to 60+ countries solo so far. Asia is a continent of adventure, so is south America. If you've already been to Thailand and want to explore some other place, go to Vietnam. Buy a $200-$400 motorbike and travel from North to south. Your 10k budget will be enough for the entire trip.
 
I do wish you the best, as that is a wonderful way to see the world. My wife and I want to do the same and are hopeful we can, as that is on our bucket list. We want to see the world and all of the culture surrounding it. We are trying to plan to go to Japan, possibly Nepal, but we don't know yet.

I have travelled around Europe on my own back in the day when I hadn't met the missus yet and I enjoyed it a lot. But I never travelled for the sake of it, I was always going somewhere for something specific like an a concert or another organized event and I added some solo travel around it. One of the best things about solo traveling is having the freedom to go with the flow when you feel like it.
 
Hey Sol! You'll have an amazing time!

Recent experiences:
1. Thailand for best massages and relaxed atmosphere
2. Vietnam for authentic experience, amazing landscapes, super cheap (definitely more hardcore)
3. Philippines for a wife. Sunsets and beaches are amazing but overall disastrous Infrustructure makes it hard to enjoy.
4. Hong Kong for Cyberpunk landscapes and great City vibes (higher budget though)

And something from my friends:
5. Bali for relaxing vibes, but the Bali belly is not a joke (All of my friends who's been there recently got awful poisoning)


One website helped me a Lot to choose, it gives clear info for each destination for comparison: nomads com (was called Nomadlist before)

My friend Sol! Nice to see you again.
I quitted home at 17. Went from Spain to Italy alone and I lived in many cities around Italy this years (i'm 24 in 2 weeks). In this 6 years I met lot of people and lived lot of experiences. In a month I'll keep on with this solo travel, this time I'm moving to Australia for a year, then probably moving to Middle East or LAT-AM. Who knows, maybe one day we cross eachother!
Thai for you seems a fair idea, cool place. Consider also Asia, or Latino America as cool places to explore. Of course, if you were not so much in Europe, you got lot to visit around here.

Great tips thanks. I’m familiar with Bali Belly a lot of my mates who have been all copped it. It’s unfortunate because the destination is nice.

I like LATAM vibes but a bit worried of safety especially solo. Middle East is great been there many times.

Europe will be cool to see it’s more expensive then Asia but in terms of familiarity and culture similarities Europe will be better.

idk why people underestimate solo traveling here. been to thai, china, italy, turkey, spain on my own and had crazy experiences. You learn more about yourself than any group trip could ever teach you.

I read some guy said "Thailand is the best place to find a wife" - i believe with all my heart that it was a joke lmao
