Is selling digital products on Etsy still viable in 2026?
How does one even start? How much should be invested? What's the knowledge required? Are there similar platforms to Etsy that are better, or are there specific platforms for specific niches?
I'm interested in this topic, so any kind of advice is welcome!

Get a 3D printer and you're good to go, 3D print files seem to be a weapon

If I could swap time for income without the exchange of energy I'd be dangerous

If you could elaborate a bit more it would be amazing

Yes—but not like before

Etsy is no longer “easy money”.
It has evolved into a search-driven, competitive marketplace.

What changed:

  • Massive AI-generated competition
  • Saturated niches (printables, planners, wall art)
  • Etsy algorithm now favors:
    • Conversion rate
    • Listing quality score
    • Customer experience (reviews, delivery, refunds)

Do you know some other markets that are not oversaturated for digital products?

Selling digital products on Etsy is still highly viable in 2026 if you focus on niche utility (e.g., ADHD-friendly planners or AI prompt libraries) rather than generic templates. Start with a $50 budget for Canva Pro and eRank for SEO, then diversify to Stan Store or Gumroad once you have a social media following to avoid Etsy’s high transaction fees.

Still viable in 2026, just more competitive. Focus on niche + SEO + quality listings.
Start with 5–10 products, low investment ($20–50). Canva is enough.
Etsy is great for traffic, alternatives are Gumroad/Payhip.

Yes, there are definitely alternatives where competition isn’t as intense as Etsy yet:

  • Gumroad – great for selling directly to your audience, especially digital downloads and niche products
  • Payhip – similar to Gumroad but simpler, good for beginners
  • Creative Fabrica – still growing, especially for fonts, graphics, and printables
  • Design Bundles – decent demand with less saturation than Etsy in some categories
  • Ko-fi Shop – underrated platform for digital creators and small communities
Also, many sellers are moving towards their own Shopify or WooCommerce stores to avoid marketplace saturation altogether.

That said, every platform eventually gets competitive - the real advantage comes from niche positioning and product quality.

Yes, selling digital products on Etsy is still viable in 2026, but it’s competitive.
Start by choosing a niche, creating digital products (e.g., templates), setting up a shop, and optimizing listings with keywords. Low investment is needed, mainly time and basic design/SEO skills.

hi, i am an artist, offering commissioned portrait paintings, can we possible to work together?

Yes—selling digital products on Etsy is still viable in 2026, but only if you target a niche, optimize SEO, and offer real value instead of generic products.

Still worth it if you find a tight niche and actually deliver value. Etsy is crowded, but there’s still demand for well-made templates, fonts, and printables. Start tiny, test a few ideas, and put most of your effort into good SEO and killer covers. It helps to have your own list or site so you’re not chasing Etsy’s algorithm every day.

I am doing digital products on Etsy right now, just started a month ago and have uploaded >20 listings (wall art), no sales yet but I am learning a lot every day. The hardest thing is definitely pinning down the niche, I am using erank but even there it is hard, I get it....I mean if it would be easy to find good keywords and niche then everyone would be doing it lol

Yes, still works but very competitive now start with a simple niche create basic digital products and learn keywords/SEO low investment needed.

Consistency and patience are important for results.

Yes, Etsy is still working in 2026, but competition is high - a narrow niche is essential.
You can start with almost no budget; the key is a good product and basic understanding of SEO and your audience.
There are alternatives, but Etsy still provides traffic if you enter the right niche.

Selling digital products on Etsy is still viable in 2026 but the competition has increased significantly. Success depends on selecting the right niche implementing strong SEO strategies and offering high quality unique designs.

Yes it is still worth it but not as easy as people make it look competition is high now so simple templates or copied ideas usually dont work anymore if you choose a good niche and solve a real problem it can still make consistent income over time

I started selling on Etsy in October 2024. Started with one store selling digital products. Now I am managing three stores. It is still doable if you find the right product and do not abandon fast. You need to be smart also about your pictures, your prices (analyse the competition). And one very important thing is: VOLUME.

Selling digital products on Etsy is a game of volume. All the stores with 2000+ products are selling very well.

So if you find the solution of how to have 2000+ products published without copyright problems -> You WIN the game.
