Do PBNs still move rankings or just temporary boosts?

I keep seeing mixed opinions about PBNs lately.
Some say they still work great, others say it's just short-term spikes.
From what I tested, they still push rankings… but sometimes drop after a while.
Curious what you guys are seeing recently.

PBNs still work in 2026, but mostly as a short-term ranking push rather than a reliable long-term strategy. They can move keywords up quickly because you control the links, but over time, Google tends to either devalue those links or ignore them, which is why rankings often drop after a while. Smaller, well-built networks may still pass some value, but anything scaled or obvious carries a higher risk and instability.

In reality, PBNs are best used as a supporting or testing layer, not as the core of a site’s authority, because relying on them heavily almost always leads to fluctuations instead of steady growth.

PBN can still move rankings, but mostly for short-term boosts. Sometimes they help push pages up quickly, but drops can happen later if signals look unnatural. I think they work better when mixed with real, relevant backlinks and good content for more stable results.

PBNs still work well if done properly. They give fast ranking boosts and strong control over anchor text and links, which is why many SEOs still use them. Drops usually happen only with low-quality or overused networks clean, niche-relevant, well-managed PBNs can stay stable and effective.

Pbns certainly still move rankings if they are not part of larger public maps but the trick for 2026 is using them as a Tier 2 power boost for your Tier 1 guest posts rather than having them directly linked to your mini site

When built with clean expired domains and natural link placement, PBNs can still give strong ranking boosts on Google when used carefully.

PBNs can still give a quick ranking boost, but they are not reliable for long term results. You might see improvements at first, but rankings often drop later if Google picks up on the links or simply devalues them. Right now, it’s safer to treat PBNs as a secondary tactic rather than your main strategy, since relying on them too much increases the risk of losing rankings or getting penalized.

From what we see now, PBNs work, and they certainly do, but in a slightly different way. The brief surges in rankings that everyone's talking about are a symptom of weak networks, with random domains with zero history. A different story is with proper drops with a real history: a vibrant link profile, relevant topics, and uncluttered anchors. The effect lasts. Especially when the links are placed from the homepage, there's no anchor overload, and the network isn't spread across a dozen projects.

PBN still work but mostly as a short term boost or ranking push not a stable foundation

They hold only when used lightly on already strong sites otherwise they spike then drop once Google filters patterns or trust is low

PBNs can still boost rankings in the short term, but in 2026 their effects are often not sustainable and can lead to drops or penalties if detected by Google, so they’re best used as a supplementary tactic rather than a long-term strategy.

PBNs still move rankings if done right clean domains, proper masking, and relevance, but they’re less stable now and more prone to decay over time.
Most drops happen from footprint issues or lack of support links, so they work best when combined with other link types for stability.

PBNs can still move rankings fast, but they’re risky and often fade if not maintained or if Google catches patterns.
Best used as a booster alongside safer links and solid on-page, not as a standalone long-term strategy.

They still work I’m seeing some of my best rankings right now come from well managed pbns, the drops usually only happen if you're buying cheap links from public sellers, but a clean, private network is still a powerhouse for long-term gains.

Agree with above, we have seen PBN boost up rankings in short term, but long term impact is rare

From what I've seen, PBNs still work well when they're built and used properly-they can definitely move rankings. The drops usually happen with low-quality or overused networks. If you stick to high-quality, niche-relevant PBNs and keep it natural, they can be a strong part of your strategy.

Temporary spikes only happen when your PBN gets deindexed because of obvious footprints or overspam! If you treat those PBNs as money sites and keep building some backlinks, post content as well without any backlinks, then they will keep powering up your main website, and you may see an increase in rankings over time!
But if you just build a plain PBN site on a random expired domain, without any social pages and backlink 100s of websites, and each article on the website is linking to an external website, that will surely gonna be penalize.

PBN that you own works perfectly well, and there's no such thing as "short term boost".

What doesn't work is buying trash "PBN" links from link farms. You get what you pay for.

PBNs can still be effective for low to medium competition keywords. They do help move rankings, especially in the short term. But I wouldn’t recommend relying only on PBNs. They’re not strong or stable enough on their own. If you’re targeting competitive keywords or want long-term results, you’ll need to mix some stronger links like high-authority guest posts, niche edits, and other quality placements.

In my experience, PBNs work best as a support strategy, not the main one.
