Most blogs don’t die, they just stop adapting.
Most successful blogs can maintain good income for about 3–7 years because, at first, they benefit from fresh content, strong SEO, and a large audience. Over time, however, tastes change, search engine algorithms update, and if the blogger doesn’t continuously create new content, expand topics, or diversify revenue streams, the blog gradually loses its appeal. In other words, for a blog to last and sustain income, it needs to be treated as a long-term project, constantly adapting and innovating, rather than relying solely on its initial popularity.
There is no average. Blogs and websites die down due to their owner not updating them.
That happens when the blog owner earned a lot from the blog and retired rich. Or, the blog owner stopped to publish / update content on a consistent basis, did not adapt to web traffic changes, as we are more and more algorithms dependent as time goes. Do not forget that there are also monetization shifts happening.
