Footer links don’t really improve rankings much anymore. Google mostly treats them as normal site navigation.
They’re still good for crawlability and structure, but contextual links inside content carry more SEO value.
So it’s fine to add important links in the footer just don’t expect ranking boosts from it alone.

honest take is footer links can help a bit, but they’re not magic ranking juice on their own. what actually matters is relevance and internal link equity flow. if you drop important pages in the footer and your site already has weak internal linking, that might push a tiny bit more signals because every page is easier to crawl and gets more anchors pointing to it.
but if your site structure is average and you already link to those pages from main nav, body content, and contextual spots, then footer links barely move the needle. google cares about how users find the content, not just “there is a link at the bottom”.
