What are Your Best Moving Tips?

I'm currently in the process of moving houses. We got the keys on the 6th of Feb and are "almost" ready to move in.

When we moved into my current house, my hubby and I were on a budget so we ended up having to pack up and move everything ourselves as soon as we got the keys. This time around, we've been slowly packing up stuff and taking the boxes and crates over to the new house so that when we finally pull the trigger this coming weekend, all we need is the big stuff moved. It's been tons less stressful than the last move.

However, I'm curious. For those of you who've moved houses, what are your best packing and moving tips?

Label all boxes by room - and keep one essentials box per person key things (with chargers, toiletries, meds, and coffee) to avoid chaos first nights

Congrats on your new house! Use one of these similar hand wrappers to quickly wrap around storage drawers, dressers, chest, nightstand, etc to quickly keep drawers from flying open. You can use moving blankets to cover and protect items and then wrap it with this, quick and easy! Good luck on a safe move!

You are doing great with packing slowly. Label your boxes with the room and what is inside. Keep a box with things you need first like clothes and toiletries. Use small boxes for heavy items and big ones for light things. Wrap fragile items in towels or clothes. Take pictures of electronics setup. Keep snacks and music to make moving easier.

Everything has been told. But i think it's the key. Throw or give all the thing not used from a long time.

My grandparents were hoarders (grew up in the great depression) and my best friend's mother is a hoarder. While my grandparents contained it to the basement, it was still a chore to clean out when each passed (grandpa had a door, door knob and nut and bolt collection and grandma had over 50 TV dinners in the freezer that were long expired). However, I can remember the first time my best friend invited me to her home and having to traverse the "trails" to get to her room. 90% of the stuff in her room wasn't even her stuff. That, and the times we've had to go over and clear out her mom's place, has always stuck with me.

Thankfully, there wasn't a whole lot we had to get rid of (outside of the crap in my husband's shed...it's obvious he hasn't lived around hoarders) and I've used the opportunity to shed more stuff. Incidentally, this is why as soon as my niece and nephew got old enough, I gift them experiences instead of stuff.

I just saw a tiktok where the mom took a queen or king size sheet and laid it on the floor, then took the clothes out of closet and laid them on the sheet with hangers still attached. She just tied the sheet up and untied it when she got to the house house

That's a pretty good idea actually!

Since I just got back from Iceland I actually left all of my cold weather clothes in my suitcase that didn't need laundering like the ski jacket and then added more that I wouldn't be wearing again till next year. That was a pretty effortless way of moving clothes over. I store the rest of my clothes in decorative crates so they came in those.

I think the hardest was my computer. I work on a mac and have a switch to my gaming rig so I have A LOT of cables. I packed them away nicely and those SOBs still managed to make a mess out of everything. ;-D
