I’ve noticed some people can’t focus without music, while others need complete silence to get anything done. What works best for you and why?

I have done both already today : )

I played a whole album and after it was done I was even tired of having music on, so I didn’t bother to play anything else.
From then on, it was just the silence that worked

When you have music playing while you work, I feel at some point you even get tired of that too and just want silence
Likewise, when it’s all silent initially, you might end up wanting some sound

For me it really depends on the work. If it requires full concentration then I prefer working in silence, if not then with music for sure.

I personally prefer to work in silence. It helps me concentrate better and think more clearly without any distractions. When it’s quiet, I can fully focus on the task and stay productive for longer periods. Music can sometimes divide my attention, especially if it has lyrics, so silence just works best for me.

I work more efficiently in an environment with music compared to a completely quiet one.

I have ADHD and I'm very familiar with the issue of staying focused. My short answer is "it depends", mostly on the task at hand and my current mood and energy level. I listen to electronic music with a cerebral beat when doing intellectual work. When I work instead on physical tasks or when my energy is low, I listen to hard rock or heavy metal. When it's time to sleep, I prefer complete silence

Same with me. Music with lyrics distract me. Instrumental music works for me. When I need to unstress, a female vocalist with a soothing voice is perfect for me

I usually use both. It depends on the mood and the work if intensive work is going on seriosly silence would be prefered & if i am in an Chill mood would play on some music.

They don’t say “music is the food of the soul” for nothing. I probably couldn’t live without music. Working with slow music in the background is on a whole different level. I even listen to music while reading a book. :D

I usually work while listening to prodcast or news I never listen to music i just cant or watch movies on my other screen

It depends what I do but when I have music playing in background I do something more chill.

I always listen to something for repetitive tasks. It really depends on my mood too so yes xD

Except for video editing, I need music to do any kind of task. Sometimes I even listen to music while washing my motorcycle. I feel like music keeps me from getting bored, otherwise the work starts to feel frustrating and harder to enjoy.
