Who has installd a phpbb forum ? (need technical help)

I'm working on a project and PHPBB floated to the surface as the best choice. (It's not perfect)

I'm trying to get it to autoembed Tiktok and X/twitter videos. But all the mods and information I'm finding are at least 15 years outdated.
The community help really stinks.

Haven't heard that name in years.

I used to be so active there. Have built a lot of phpBB boards in my time. Used to love it to bits, then moved to vBulletin. And now am finally working with Xenforo

Here is an embed plugin/extension

Last updated was about 4 months ago.

P.S - If you're serious about the project, don't go for phpBB, there are other free forum software that are much better and more continually updated.

I'd recommend Xenforo. But if you're looking for free alternatives then either go for MyBB or Flarum.

Oh my, I've thought this can't be too complicated, so I've checked, and damn, this is a problem because of how video embeds have evolved.

This needs customised handling but it's possible

As for the rest... We tried MyBB and it was a cluster fuck. Flarum looked good but we're marketing to boomers and they freak out at everything that's new or not facebook.

As for Clusterfucks, I can assure you that you're in for a world of pain.

The lack of this embedding extension is only the start of your troubles.

They've been promising phpBB 4.x for literally almost 2 decades now. And they launched the first alpha last September and it was such a let down.

Their main stable release for phpBB 3.x was almost a year ago in 2025

I'm looking into Flarum. (Thanks for the recommendation)
It seems to be one of those 'simple enough an idiot' can be an active member.
