1. Mirroring: The Myth
The technique: Flip the video horizontally.
Reality under Content ID: Useless.
YouTube’s algorithm has been able to recognize mirrored footage for years. It analyzes shapes and contrasts. Whether they’re on the left or the right, the visual signature remains the same for the AI.
Plus, mirroring makes any on-screen text unreadable, which degrades the user experience.
2. Zooming / De-zooming: Not Enough
The technique: Zoom in by 10–15%.
Reality: Content ID doesn’t do rigid pixel-by-pixel comparison. It uses object detection and keypoint recognition (similar to facial recognition).
Why it fails: Even if you zoom into Sonic’s face, the distance between his eyes, the shape of his spikes, and the lighting contrasts remain the same. The AI matches these “points of interest.”
