The kind of work that keeps you busy looks good on reports,
but doesn’t move rankings, traffic, or revenue.

Honest answers only.

Chasing vanity metrics—like obsessing over rankings for a few high-volume keywords or raw traffic numbers—feels productive, but usually isn’t.

My honest answer; blogging can feel productive, but on its own it often doesn’t move rankings anymore. With AI flooding the web, generic blog posts rarely stand out. Focusing more on intent, authority, and real user value tends to deliver better results than publishing content just to stay busy.

Wasting too much time on social media... should do more like post and forget.

This is a nice one. :D
Whitehat SEO!

Making long reports and checking stats all day feels useful, but often changes nothing.

Rewriting metas without changing anything in the content.

Totally agree, a lot of SEO effort goes into things that look productive on the surface but don’t drive real growth. Real results usually come from improving authority, matching search intent, and creating content that actually stands out, not just staying busy with minor tweaks or constant posting.

The same happens to me, too. :(

Preparing lengthy audit reports that address minor issues after putting so much time and effort on minor issues it helps nothing.
