Lead quality vs volume – what actually matters when scaling?

Lately I’ve seen a lot of people saying their campaigns stop converting once they scale up.
From what I’ve seen, it’s rarely about copy or offer at that stage, but more about lead quality.

Big lists look attractive, but once you factor in blocks, dead numbers, or inactive users, the real cost shows up pretty fast.

Curious how others here handle this when scaling:
Do you focus more on cleaning data first, or just push volume and optimize later?

Are you versed in ML?

I completely agree with the points raised about lead quality being a major factor when scaling campaigns. When it comes to handling this issue, I've found that a combination of both cleaning data first and optimizing later can be effective. However, I'm curious to know if anyone has explored using machine learning (ML) techniques to predict and filter out low-quality leads before scaling up. Have you or anyone else had success with implementing ML models to improve lead quality and campaign conversions? I'd love to hear about any experiences or insights on this topic.

Good point.
I’ve seen ML help in some cases, but in practice it’s often less about prediction and more about solid signals and rules.
In our experience, basic validation, activity checks, and pattern-based filtering usually get most of the gains, especially before scaling. ML can add value on top, but it’s rarely a silver bullet by itself.
