For a high-traffic blog, look at Ghost or a static site generator like Hugo/Next.js both are much lighter and more secure than WordPress while handling scale very well.

WordPress is still the top choice for blogging because it’s flexible, SEO‑friendly, and easy to customize without heavy coding.
I think he wants something lightweight and only for blogging

Wordpress out of the box when not developed configured right (read that twice !) , has a poor site structure quality, since all these uprolling google hcu updates, the bot will stop crawling and indexing your content/ blog posts it's a big twist that setup, because wp cms its core is a bloated mess for your seo an´d you can't stop it complete . The automattic propgrammed wp so that the free version selfhost not has that lean strict clean code that their wordpress.com VIP plans have. This is the reason my bigger influencers and somebig media news sites too, using only the wordpress.com VIP plan and they rank much better, higher than you and have often multiple serp listings.
Use a tool like screaming frog and check some wp sites than you will be shocked, then you will understand what I mean.
And their tech stack is old, old PHP DB.
Understand modern tech stacks like Webstudio or the new Squarespace 7.1, then you will understand. Both not have these poor site structure quality core code issues wp has . But I bet, most of you will hate me, because you fall in that trap that wp is a world-class cms.

You not have a clue about that messy core code from free selfhost wp (the wordpress.com vip plans not have !), which is the reason why nowadays googlebot stop crawling your site and ocntent.
with that level of traffic it might be worth looking at a lighter setup with fewer dependencies many publishers move toward headless or static focused systems for better performance and security the right choice depends on how much flexibility and content management control you need daily
