Fellow members of BHW,

I have recently noticed a sudden drop in the number of pages getting indexed from my website this week. The count that is usually more than 100 per week is now standing at 1.

At first, I thought that it might be a side-effect of the DA increasing service that I bought last month and was ready to disavow all the freshly detected links and domains. But, I checked a few of my competitors also and saw that they are also facing the same issue. Only 1 page indexed from their website in the past week.

Please note that the competitors I'm talking about have an average traffic of ~50K per month. So it's quite strange.

I have checked search console thoroughly and there are no warnings. Not sure why this happened but I urge you all to check.

Are you using AI content on the site ?

yes, I’ve noticed similar indexing slowdowns lately across multiple sites with no GSC warnings. It’s likely google temporarily tightening crawl/indexing, not a penalty if key pages are still indexed, just keep sitemaps/internal links clean and wait a bit.

I had been facing indexing issues for last one year. Most of my new projects suffer from poor indexing.

It may be due to Dec 2025 core update.Check with this with the same niche of your other website.

Indexing fluctuations like this do happen, especially during algorithm or crawl-budget adjustments. If Search Console shows no errors, it’s likely temporary—keep monitoring and avoid making drastic changes unless the issue persists.

Noticed similar behavior across a few sites as well. Looks more like a temporary indexing throttle or algo-side adjustment than a link issue especially if competitors are affected too.

The “SUDDEN drop in indexing” has been happening for about a year now. The reason is not bad backlinks, but with a high degree of probability the content of your pages.
If this is template-based, non-original AI content with a low number of entities confirming its topicality, such pages will drop out of the index.
Most often, in Google Search Console they will have the status “Crawled, currently not indexed”. Check this on your side.

The data suggests a systemic indexing problem affecting both your site and competitors, reflected in a noticeable drop in indexed urls despite search console showing no issues.

This sudden drop sounds like a temporary Google crawl/indexing issue rather than a site problem when competitors see the same, it’s often due to an algorithm update, indexing delay, or server-side crawling slowdown, not your links.

To some extent, yes. But not on a large scale.

i get it. i'm more concerned because my website is quite old and i haven't faced such issues before.

It seems there may be a widespread indexing issue affecting multiple websites, including yours and your competitors', as indicated by a significant drop in page indexing despite no apparent warnings in your Search Console.
yes, competitors are affected but only a few of them. idk what the others did right.

that's a great advice actually. i never knew the 'crawled but not indexed' section could be used like this. Thanks
