Hello fellow blackhatters. It's been 6 months now when i placed the wikipedia image backlink. Both wikipedia and wikimedia pages are indexed in Google. But not one single tool picks it up. I do use free tools, but normally i would see them.

Does anybody know why this is and can this be changed, so it will get picked up by semrush or ahrefs?

Thanks!

It can be because they are nofollow and not treated like real backlinks, so tools like Ahrefs and Semrush ignore them.

Thanks, but i doubt it. A lot of no-follow links are picked up by tools, especially high autority links

That’s normal. Wikipedia image links are usually no-follow and indirect (via Wikimedia), so many tools don’t count or report them. Indexing doesn’t guarantee visibility in Ahrefs or Semrush, and you can’t really force tools to pick them up. The link may still exist, but its SEO impact is limited.

The Commons page being indexed doesn’t mean link tools will extract and store every link from it.
Indexing just means the page was crawled and saved. Link tools still decide which parts of the DOM are worth parsing into their link graph.

Wikimedia Commons pages are indexed, but their outbound links mostly sit in metadata and template sections that Ahrefs/Semrush intentionally ignore to avoid noise.

Google keeps everything. Third-party tools only keep what’s useful for competitive link analysis.
