9 year old expired domain worth it?

I found a 9 year old domain that way great in 2017. The domain was regiestered in 2024 and in auctioned. It appears everytime someone used the site since then the owner has been 301 ing the links and not rebuilding the site like i want to.

Is a website 9 years old from being used and just 301ed still worth it? I have found about 50% links are dead, probably hire. It had 35k, but a lot of the real relevant links still exist.

If I do, it will be linked to the tier 2 anyway was my thought, so will not hurt too much.

I frequently buy old domains, and I often encounter this situation where they are permanently redirected to a new website. I actually think this is a good thing, because at least it hasn't been used by someone else for other content. I suggest you check the historical snapshots on web.archive.org.

Domain age doesn’t matter much anymore. If it’s been 301’d repeatedly, most link equity is likely diluted. It’s only worth it if you can rebuild real pages that match the surviving relevant links otherwise, it’s just recycled authority.

I think the domain can still be valuable, but it’s not instantly powerful

did you notice referring domain to backlinks counts? If it has a lots of differences then thats a bad sign. Also what about the referring domain quality and niche? upon these you can take better decisions.

It can still be worth it, but only if the remaining relevant backlinks are high quality and you rebuild the site properly instead of continuing 301s, otherwise most of the SEO value is already lost.

This is what I was planning to do, i never 301 domains, just rebuild them.

I did and it still looks like a great find. I may go back and look at it again, only a 12$ investment and some time. The domain looks offline since 2017 as a real site. Ppl just been forwarding the juicy backlinks to their non relevant site.

It's always foreign, per seeing this enough i know that those markets have a easier time with everything so content may not need to match.

if links are still relevant and not spam it can still be worth it
but if many links are dead or abused with 301s value is reduced
check link quality more than age
