Is Weibo only suitable for promotion only China?

I think Weibo was created for the Chinese community, so reaching other countries on this platform is not feasible.

I had an idea it was for asian countries and that in China it's just the most popular to use

Mostly yes, Weibo is mainly used by people in China, so it’s best for targeting Chinese audiences.

Would it work for other countries too? Are there any separate platforms for other countries?
It's not just "mainly China" - it's basically locked into mainland ecosystem because of language + Great Firewall. If you're not running Mandarin content + local hosting or at least decent CN-friendly infra, reach is gonna be dead.

For other countries you look at X for global, VK for RU, Line for JP/TH, Kakao for KR - each market has its own stack. Weibo only makes sense if your funnel can actually convert Chinese traffic, otherwise you're just farming vanity metrics

Weibo is mainly effective for China market

It can reach overseas Chinese, but not strong for global audience

Yes, it can work for other countries — but each market has its own ecosystem and rules.

Some countries have separate or dominant local platforms. For example:

  • China → Douyin (not the same as TikTok), WeChat, Bilibili
  • Russia → VK
  • Korea → Naver, Kakao
  • Japan → LINE
So instead of thinking “one global method,” think local platform + local behavior + local payment system. What works in the US often needs adjustment elsewhere.

Building on the idea of local platforms, I've found that using Naver for Korea and VK for Russia can be highly effective when combined with local payment systems. For example, on Naver, using the native payment system increased conversions by 25% compared to using a global payment gateway. Similarly, on VK, using a localized payment system boosted sales by 17% in just 6 weeks. The key is to understand the local ecosystem and adapt your strategy accordingly, rather than trying to force a global approach. I've also seen success with Douyin in China, where using local influencers and content formats increased reach by 42% in 3 months.

– US/EU: TikTok, Instagram, YouTube
– China: Douyin, Xiaohongshu, Weibo
– Japan/Korea: LINE, Twitter (X), TikTok
– SEA: TikTok, Facebook still very strong

yes, but each market has its own ecosystem.

- China → Weibo, WeChat, Douyin
- West → TikTok, IG, YouTube
- Others → local apps (LINE in JP, Kakao in KR, etc.)
- Weibo = mainly China-focused, not global traffic

Weibo is mainly focused on the Chinese audience, so it work best if you are targeting China. For other countries, platforms like Facebook, Instagram or X usually perform better. It really depends on where you target audience is located.

Yes, it can work in other countries — same principles apply (device, IP, behavior).
Each market has its own platforms (e.g. TikTok global, Douyin China, etc.).
But success depends more on local content + audience understanding than the platform itself.
