What do you actually use reddit for?

I don’t really use Reddit at the moment, so most of my experience is limited (sorry - not really helpful!). That said, I’ve been looking at it more recently from a marketing angle rather than personal use.

From what I can see, it can work for brands and projects, but only if it’s done carefully and in a value first way. The communities are very protective, so it seems less about direct promotion and more about contributing, building credibility, and letting opportunities come from that.

I’m still in the research and testing phase with it, so I don’t have hard results yet, but it’s definitely on my radar as a potential traffic source. I’ll be watching this thread to see what others are doing and what’s working for them.

I don’t really use Reddit for selling anything. I mostly use it to find info—like good restaurants, food spots, concerts, or events happening near me. I’m also curious to figure out what other ways Reddit can be useful, like for personal projects, learning new things, or maybe even promoting a brand in a non-spammy way

For me, Reddit is personal first and projects second. It can work for brands, but only if you show up as a real human and add value before thinking about promotion. I mostly use it to understand real problems, test ideas, and see how people actually talk. Direct selling usually backfires there.

Reddit is the best thing for you if you have any business brand or any software or anything that you want to sell or promote. I used to think of Reddit as a personal-only platform, mostly for advice, hobbies, and staying up to date with niche news. For a long time, I avoided using it for anything related to brands or projects because I assumed it would get ignored or downvoted.


But over time, I realized Reddit can work for brands and projects, just in a very different way than other social platforms. The key is not treating it like marketing. Reddit users respond much better to honest experiences, lessons learned, and real conversations rather than promotions. When I shifted to sharing what actually worked, what failed, and what I learned along the way, engagement started to happen naturally.


For some projects, I’ve even used SproutGigs to get help with research, post structuring, and feedback before posting. That made a big difference in making posts sound more natural and less like ads, which is crucial on Reddit.


So for me, Reddit is still great for personal use, but it’s also surprisingly effective for brands if you approach it as a community first and a marketing channel second.
