Why does youtube ultimately kills the reach of all old popular youtube channels ? Even channels with millions of subscribers face this and loose all the charm at some point.

Not if they keep uploading and being the best they can be. Someone said it perfectly on here before. We can't all upload and expect to be famous, youtube is built only to favour a small amount. I havn't seen any 10 year vets on yotuube NOT look like they are monitised. I've watched the journeys of a few creaters from obscrure to monitised. Youtbe gets more than 3 million new uplaods per day! lol imagine EACH one of them wants to be a viral hit! lol no chance.

Old channels lose reach because YouTube follows viewer interest, not subscriber count.

source? anyways I don't think YT has something to do with it, the audience just simply moved on, grew up or got fed up with their content esp if that big channel keeps on doing what it does 10 years ago

it's less about YouTube killing channels and more about audience fatigue and shifting viewer behavior. Older channels often keep the same format while viewer expectations, competitors, and content styles evolve. Channels that adapt their format and audience targeting tend to stay relevant much longer

Yes, very few youtubers change their posting style no matter how popular they are in their peak.

they don’t evolve fast enough with audience habits and content pacing, not because yt is punishing them

It is usually not YouTube killing old channels. YouTube recommendations are based on current viewer response, not subscriber count, so old audiences going cold will drop impressions.

The practical fix is a reset sprint: 8 to 10 videos on one tight topic, better first 30 seconds, and titles/thumbnails that match the actual payoff.

You have to keep uploading videos consistently in order for YouTube's Algo to rank you and to keep your content relevant. If you don't your account will be made obscure.

It’s not really YouTube ‘killing’ old channels it’s that the recommendation system prioritizes what viewers are clicking and watching now, not just subscriber count. If the audience shifts or stops engaging like before, impressions and reach naturally drop, and channels that adapt their content tend to stay relevant longer.

I think that's not right. What usually happens is that over time, the original appeal that made the channel special starts to fade. Audiences evolve, expectations rise, and what felt fresh years ago can start to feel predictable. At the same time, newer creators enter the space with sharper editing, faster pacing and formats built for current viewer habits. It’s less about YouTube targeting old channels and more about creative fatigue, audience saturation, and the constant shift in attention dynamics on the platform

Yes, i agree with that. A lot of channel have a lot of subscriber and no views due to lose of interest to this channel

Building on the idea that creative fatigue and audience saturation play a significant role, I've found that revamping content formats and production quality can temporarily boost engagement. For instance, switching from traditional talking-head style videos to more dynamic, animated explainers or live streams can increase average watch time by 25-30% and spark new interest. Additionally, incorporating interactive elements like polls, Q&A sessions, or challenges can further enhance viewer engagement, as seen in a recent case study where a channel's impressions rose by 42% after introducing weekly live streams with interactive components.

No matter what you do, if YouTube decides to limit your channel reach, the channel will be dead soon.

in 2021 I was doing Youtube and I had big channels (what I call big is 100-300k subscribers but that was enough for me to make money, cpm was nice) But the trend got less popular and i ended up selling one of the channels. The other ones I deleted the videos and they were not more viewers. It's how yt works.

I think in my opinion YouTube boes not kill old channels. People don't wanna see the same thing ,and it also depends on mood of people if they don't like your videos ,then their views drop.

It's just that subscribers find their content irrelevant. This is especially true for old children's channels, where the audience simply outgrows them.

with lots of new channels popping up everyday that they need to push, that is bound to happen not just popular channels

The algorithm changed based on what we watch. If we watch newer content then that’s what it pushes.
