Most sites still fail because they think SEO means publishing more content.
It doesn’t.

In 2026, SEO is less about individual keywords and more about topical authority.

Topical authority is when Google sees your site as a complete, reliable source for an entire topic, not just a collection of pages targeting keywords.

That usually comes from:
  • Covering a topic end-to-end, not just the profitable parts
  • Publishing supporting content before money pages
  • Structuring content to build understanding, not just rankings
If you chase keywords first, authority rarely comes.
If you build topic coverage first, rankings usually follow.

That mindset shift alone fixes a lot of broken SEO strategies.

I’m currently building a tool around topical authority (not ready yet), but wanted to share this because it’s something I keep seeing misunderstood.

If you guys want, I can share more insights from actually building this system —
things like:
  • how fast you should publish
  • how to structure hub & pillar pages
  • how to expand topics without diluting authority
Let me know.

I think SEO now is more about covering full topics and giving real answers, not just keywords.

You’re absolutely right. Nowadays, search engines are focusing on content quality and user experience. Content that provides little value will gradually cause a website to be rated lower. Focus on the value your website can deliver to visitors.

I think SEO is SEO. Only people create value win the race. It could be by doing a lots of things. You just have to create value.

That's for sure!

The requirements for AI are different from that of Google. So, search engines are now preferring wholesome content from a website that covers entire topic instead of authority sites publishing high volume content for revenue growth. It's the reason why many people think that the era of backlinks is gone. But in reality, you need both authority and wholesome content.

You are right, it's about covering full topics

This makes a lot of sense. I’m seeing better results when sites focus on fully covering a topic instead of chasing isolated keywords. Once the structure and supporting content are in place, rankings tend to come more naturally. Topic-first SEO definitely feels like the right mindset going into 2026.

Topical authority is how you get cited by Perplexity and ChatGPT Search. They look for the 'Complete Map' of a topic, not just a keyword-stuffed article.
That's true because Perplexity and ChatGPT Search look for sites that cover an entire topic end-to-end, not one optimized article. That’s topical authority.

This is a very true . One of my friends owns a car review site and it is doing good for years only because he has put like a network of content including videos.

I have created a new topic about this, and the thing is I just started a new test yesterday so I guess this is the right time 2 test :)
I'm trying a BURST strategy right now ... publishing 25 articles per 1 for the first month, and then I will go with 50 articles / week from month 2.

From what I've tested until now ... diluting authority is not a big issue if you interlink the root-hub, pillars and articles correctly.
Anyway ... read more about my strategy if you want - Case Study -> From 0 to hero, starting with DAY 0 in the same subforum

Great insight. Focusing on building complete topical authority rather than just keyword targeting is definitely the way forward in 2026. It's about context and depth not just more content.

Thanks! Exactly — context and coverage matter more than chasing individual keywords. Depth builds trust, not volume. Everything else comes later.

In 2026 you don’t rank by chasing keywords—you rank by becoming the trusted source for an entire topic.

how to get mention in ai research results?

You don’t “optimize for AI” directly.

AI systems (ChatGPT, Perplexity, etc.) surface sources that show clear topical coverage, consistent entities, and strong internal structure.
