I have noticed youtube has reduced CPM for all niches compared to what is used to be four years ago. What is the reason behind deline in this ?

CPMs dropped mainly due to higher ad inventory (more creators, Shorts) and advertisers spreading budgets across more platforms. Economic slowdowns + stricter ad policies also pushed overall ad rates down compared to years ago.

CPMs have decreased across all niches due to reduced advertiser budgets, changing audience positioning, and YouTube's algorithmic ad format changes.

YouTube CPM feels lower across all niches mainly because advertisers are spending less, there’s more ad inventory (especially from Shorts), and seasonal drops after peak ad periods.
Privacy changes and audience shifts to lower-CPM regions also reduce ad value, so even if views stay high, earnings per 1,000 views fall.

CPM isnt really reduced by youtube as much as its been diluted. Ad inventory exploded with shorts, global creators and cheaper traffic sources, so the same budgets are spread thinner.
On top of that advertisers now optimize harder for ROI, which pushes down average rates even in decent niches.

The drop in CPM is also influenced by changing advertiser priorities many focus on conversions over impressions, which reduces average payout per view even if engagement remains high.

CPMs are down mostly because there are way more creators and ad slots now, advertisers are being tighter with budgets and YouTube spreads ads across more channels, so payouts just don’t hit like they used to

CPMs dropped due to more creators competing for ads, higher ad supply, and advertisers shifting budgets to Shorts and other platforms. Economic slowdowns also reduced advertiser spend, lowering average CPMs across niches.

Advertisers prefer paying X to a reputable channel or X + a fee for every conversion than pay for google ads and let YT show your pet food or baby diapers ads to people that don't have kids or pets

there's just too much people doing content now and YT algo needs to divide this to viewers plus more creators now are competing for the same ads

There are some evolving niches like crypto where youtube pays more. You may consider making content in these niches for higher earning.

there are multiple reasons and also not all niches have their cpsm decreased, infact some niches have their cpms super high like minimum $12 per 1000 views. CPM is mainly affected due to geography, but there are other factors like length of videos, content value etc.

YouTube CPMs have dropped because more creators are competing for the same ad dollars, and advertisers are spreading budgets across more formats like Shorts.

Economic factors and changes in audience behavior also play a role. It’s not just one niche, overall ad demand and inventory shifts have lowered CPMs compared to years ago.

I think it's because they now have too many content creators compared to advertisers. Maybe there's a threshold to balance this factor.

YouTube CPMs are lower now because there’s more content, advertisers are spreading budgets across platforms, economic slowdown, more viewers in low‑CPM regions, and short‑form videos pay less.
