Looking for tips on how to boost local SEO for my material supply business. Looking to hire someone off of UpWork but thought this forum might give me more insight on what needs to be done.

Local SEO grows fastest when your Google profile, reviews, and local citations are all clean and active.

Create a GBP first if you don;t have. Optimize with "Building Materials Supplier" category, add photos of inventory/projects,
Post weekly on your profile. Build atleast 50+ NAP citations (Yelp, YellowPages, Houzz, local chambers).

If you have a website add Location pages with schema.

You can hire freelancers here by posting in Hire a Freelancer section.

Fix your Google profile, get more local reviews, and keep your business info the same everywhere.

Reviews, GMB submission, mouth to mouth depending on how local it is

Quick one that's helped a few businesses I've worked with: most people set 1 GBP category and forget about it. Make sure your secondary categories are filled out based on what you actually stock (lumber, concrete, sand & gravel, etc.).

And +1 to Products... criminally underused. Even adding your top 20-30 items with decent photos makes the listing feel more legit, and you sometimes pick up visibility from people browsing rather than searching your exact name.

Start with a fully optimized Google Business Profile, consistent local citations, real customer reviews, and location-focused service pages.

Try lots of positive reviews. category selection and consistent update is key here.

For local SEO, the basics matter more than anything else.
Make sure your Google Business Profile is fully optimized, consistent NAP across directories, and you’re getting real local reviews.
For a material supply business, location pages and local backlinks (suppliers, contractors, local listings) usually move the needle more than generic SEO work.
If you hire someone, make sure they focus on local signals, not just keywords.

Focus on the basics. Optimize your Google Business Profile, keep NAP consistent, get real customer reviews, and build local citations. Add location focused pages on your site and a few strong local backlinks. Avoid shortcuts if you hire someone.
