I built a tool that scrapes and analyzes Reddit, that :
  • Input: Accepts single or bulk keywords, any subreddit, and fully custom date ranges.
  • Output 1: Complete Thread Archive: Generates standalone HTML files for every matching post with the full comment tree intact (all replies, images, media).
  • Output 2: Analytics Dashboard: A detailed overview report with metrics like average upvotes/comments, engagement scores, temporal patterns, content analysis, and top-performing content, Trend, Peak Period, Best Times to Post presented with clear visualizations.
Here's my problem: I have zero skills in SEO, content, or paid ads to actually get users. My budget for marketing is tight. I've tried partnerships before on other projects, and they always fail, people flake, or the work doesn't get done. I don't want to go through that again.
So, I'm stuck in a loop: I logically see how it could work as a business because it runs on a cheap render plan, I planned a freemium model: free reports with basic ads, then paid upgrades for advanced features. The architecture is built for this. There's clear potential to scale vertically (deeper data/features) and horizontally (adding other platforms later).
I'm now seriously considering if the smartest move is to sell the complete project to someone who can execute that vision from day one.

For those who've made similar jumps from build to business: does my assessment seem correct? Is trying to become a marketer from zero the right use of time here, or is selling the more rational choice?

Thank you.

You built a solid tool, but without marketing skills growth will be slow. Selling to someone who can execute is smarter than trying to learn everything from scratch.

Thank you, yeh i will see.
Either way you will still need to market.
Dame, so i need to learn some things in marketing, but if i'm gonna do it i will do it to market my micro saas then looking for a buyer. Thank you.

The tool clearly has value. If marketing isnt your strength and partnerships havent worked, handing it to someone with the right network and execution chops could maximize its potential faster than learning everything yourself.

Yeh i will see, maybe i will just list it on pre-revneu projects paltfroms, if i could market myslef, thank you for your reply.

You built something strong, and it’s okay to let someone else handle selling it while you move on.

Let the right network do the heavy lifting while you focus on building more value.

Marketer here.

You built something, congratulations, but you don't have an audience yet. Which means you've done things in reverse. You have no idea who your customer is, and therefore even where to start promoting it. This makes it harder to market (and more expensive). Secondly, if I understand your product and what it does, this is a hard tool to sell to people you don't know. People just won't get it easy or pay enough attention, dont know they need it, or how (and why) to use it. You need a ready audience (BHW is acceptable audience for this tool btw), or people you know in your network who can use this for profit (that's what tools are for). What i mean is, it's not a product that you can just go out and start marketing with paid ads, or SEO as its kind of new probably not many searches even exists. Business is a team sport, partner up with a marketer who can guide you where is the market, and what it wants, what it buys. If you find a buyer, I'd sell this.

Don't get me wrong, your tools sounds badass, these reports can be a gold mine in the right hands. But finding these people will be a challenge for a niche tool. Ppl buy these tools to help them either save time or make money. It helps big time if they know they need it, and it exists. Otherwise, market education is an expensive, and not always productive process.

Why don't you promote this as free tool on different marketing forums? I think you are allowed to post promotional threads if it's free and adds value to the forum. Could post it to different subreddits too but not sure how they would react to a tool targeting their own platform. Traffic doesn't have to come from SEO. Repeat users is what you are looking for, people who bookmark or search your brand every time they need your tools. Make sure your website has a good brand/domain if possible.
