Instagram Video Ads!

On Instagram today, static image ads are often easily scrolled past by users because they disrupt the flow of the feed. Instead, short-form, user-generated videos with quick opening hooks and clear value propositions are dominating in terms of customer retention. For best results, shift your budget to video and use images only as a supporting tool rather than the primary ad format.

I've also noticed this problem, and I've started to intentionally focus on video content, making video production a key element of my advertising strategy.

Instagram has been prioritizing video formats like Reels and Stories in both its algorithm and ad placements, which is why video ads generally receive higher reach and engagement than static image ads, while image ads now tend to perform well only in very specific niches or retargeting scenarios.
That's absolutely true. I've tested it many times, but video production needs to be authentic and interactive to achieve better conversion rates. The length of the video also determines its quality. This is a very tricky problem.

It's not that image ads are bad, it's that Instagram is "addicted to video." If you want a good CTR, you have to cater to it.
There's nothing we can do about this; video has a much greater impact, and images are only effective in certain areas now. Users click on videos more frequently, which means current algorithms favor video content. The only option now is to work with studios to produce a large volume of videos.

Video ads are more effective and deliver results faster than image ads, and I've tested many different types of content. Of course, video ads are also more expensive. Image ads are still competitive in certain areas, and you need to adjust your strategy based on your specific needs.
I work in the electronics industry, and the dynamic effects of video are far more impactful than any still image. My current production focus has to shift to video production, even though the cost per click is higher. There's no other way around it.

Looks like it! I've observed the same pattern on FB and TikTok, it's more effective right now. It doesn't even need to be that elaborate, as long as it has a clear message, it's enough.

Is Instagram placing more emphasis on video ads? I've done market research, and most ads are video ads. My image ads have very low click-through rates. Is this really the case?
yes. because now days people are spending more times on reels. image ads doest get much result. its not meta dont want your image ads to seen but its audience who prefer reels over images.

Video ads in 2026 are seeing CTRs significantly higher (often 1.5%–2%) compared to static images, which are struggling to stay above 0.8% in competitive niches.

Instagram favors video ads now—images still work but usually get lower engagement, so short videos perform better.

Yes - your observation is mostly correct, but with an important nuance.

Right now Instagram is heavily video-first (especially Reels), and video ads generally outperform images in engagement and CTR. For example, video ads can reach ~1.87% CTR vs ~1.11% for images, and often deliver 25–35% higher CTR overall.

However, images aren’t “dead” - they often convert better in certain cases because they deliver the message instantly without requiring watch time. In some niches (e.g. simple offers, e-commerce), static ads can even outperform video on conversions.

So the real answer: video is prioritized and better for attention, but images still work - your low CTR likely means the creatives themselves need improvement, not just the format.

Video ads win mainly because of retention. The longer people watch, the more the algorithm pushes it.

Instagram is experiencing a significant surge in video advertising compared to image advertising. The majority of ads displayed on my account and Reels are videos. Good, engaging video ads consistently attract more engagement than traditional image ads.

Video ads perform better these days. It all depends on what you are trying to promote too.
