I am looking ways to start my own web hosting company. Nothing like big players

Before you all jump to say that there are 1m already out there.

I plan to start free host with limited features. Similar to X ten (don’t want to write exact name for spam purposes)

Should I buy script from code selling scripts, get VPS hosting. Will users be able to create mydomain.com/username or redirect their own domain

I've been a sys admin in hosting company 10 years ago.
The majority have this setup
Linux (can be alma linux/ubuntu) with cpanel license.

Be aware of free panels they might have exploits and it's can harm all your clients and in general just get you headache.

Then you need a CRM which WHM is perfect for it.

that's it this is the setup.

If i where opening an hosting company I will go for something that is super niche like hosting for adult tube sites.

The market is flooded and I've seen a lot of companies coming and going and they all provide basically the same and today there is big providers like amazon, google and digitalocean who are your competitors.

If you’re serious about starting a small hosting operation, I recommend to take a look at WHT (WebHostingTalk).

You’ll see what others are offering, what people complain about, and it’s also one of the better places to quietly advertise once you actually have something stable to offer.

I will check it out

What about reseller account. I came across one that’s like $7/mo with 25 Cpanel accounts. Does this mean each user cost me $0.28/mo, so if I offer $4mo, I’m in profit?

Yes, that’s basically how reseller hosting works. You’re buying a block of accounts at a fixed cost, and you decide how to price and package them.

Just keep in mind the math isn’t always that straightforward. Some clients will use more resources than others. You’ll spend time on support,. Billing software and branding tools often add to your monthly costs. Payment issues and refunds can happen.

New resellers often start cheap to get momentum, then gradually raise their prices once they have a stable base and a clearer idea of their actual workload and costs.

ew resellers often start cheap to get momentu

thanks for the tips

if I limit how much a client can use resources. then it shouldn't be an issue?
Billing & support, I can manage myself, if it becomes an issue, I can outsource that

so, these resellers process is mostly automactic? I mean the sign up, payment etc. only process I need to manage would be client refund or systems. assuming if all goes smooth, without issues, its almost automatic to run reseller business

Reseller for rocket.net would be beautiful

Can just about beat Rocket at self-hosting price to performance if their support wasn't so good and prices were cheaper

They're a company you'd want to sell the service of, and a company you'd want to resell the services of

too pricey

Create a journey on BHW if possible, so we can follow your next steps

too pricey
$900/year for ten websites on top services leaves you with banging room for discounts

Google cloud platform is easy as can be to set up and configure, but the price is like 50% better than Rocket.net from two sites up

Look at Hetzner's dedicated plans

Google is pricey too and not suitable for hosting companies for Cpanel/WHM

Hetzner doesn’t have reseller plans.

Ahh reseller's, my bad

I love RackNerd on YouTube, don't know about their rates for their reseller program but I see videos on it from outside the source so in my books that's people actually reselling

I'm a dumbass though so you doing your own research's a good sign so far dude

Best of luck

RackNerd likely have all the information you need too to be true

WHCMS simplifies the process, buy a real license and you'll have a lot of options.

You will get better price if you get a strong vps on digitalocean + cpanel (I think they have a ready to use option) give it a try. you can find vouchers for $100-$200

If it's too advanced for you, you need a CTO or some tech guy that will help you to scale your business in future.
You need some knowledge with server maintenance, how to deal with hacks (and avoid them)
And sometimes you need to know some PHP to help your clients with their bugs - spoiler they gonna blame your service first.

You seem to be a beginner in this field. Better do a JV with someone.
